Sbe2 2 3/4 and 3 1/2

I am new to shotguns and bird hunting, I have always deerf hunted and i want a gun that does it all, but i have heard and read on this sight that the sbe2 can be "broke in" and it will cycle 2 3/4 shells. Is this really true or should i buy two guns, one for light things and then heavy geese. but on the other hand i like the idea of practicing what i would be hunting with. Thanks
