Bone I believe it,but I shot a tom today with the Win. HV 6's at about 24-5yards with that kick's choke and good GRACIOUS I freaked OUT after seeing how that tom responded after I put tha POW on him he looked like a cartoon character after I shot him.

Shell your right on with tha fill and fit on a shotgun, my buddy has tha 912 also and LOVES it he also says there's no other shotgun better but I beg to differ being that I have tha SBE;) .

The turkeys have been very active but just don't want to talk at all. I've heard only one tom gobble one time since the season opened. Other people in the area are having the same problem.

Does anybody have any ideas? Could it just be the weather?

The weather here in OK has been the same I been having them answer but not coming, they are hooked up with tha hens and it's been hard to get them to me I will be trying them again this weekend.

    I've been using Win HV#5s with a Kick's Gobblin Thunder .660 choke ... recommended by Kick's ... with only so-so pattern.

Despite not being recommended :( ... I recently tried the Rem Hevi-Shot #5's with this set-up and it was outstanding at 25 yards and at 40 yards as well.

Is this dangerous? Why is it not recommended? Should I be concerned?

I can't afford time or $ to do all the variations many suggest. HELP!

Groundhog I called Chuck at kick's and he told me to use the .655 G/T with the Winchester HV #6 3" shot, and .660 G/T with the Winchester HV#6 3 1/2" I got pretty good results at 30 yards with the .655,but didn't try the #6 3 1/2 with the .660 being that the 3" whipped my tail. I will be trying the wadwizard choke after I do some research.

You have to wait untill later in the season when the gobblers are henless and are cruising around befor you can really call them in.

    Well said. ;)
  9. I have to agree the 3 inch do kick like H;LL,got me scared TOO DEATH to shoot tha 3 1/2. I have not tried them with my SIMS pad yet but I will this weekend.

My manual suggests putting a few boxes through it before I try the light loads.

    Anway, heres my setup. Today I shot Remington Hevi-shot, 3 1/2 inch, 1300 fps, # 6 with a Briley .675 Hevi-shot choke.

(using an actual size turkey head target)

    30 yards - 51 pellets in head & neck

    50 yards - 28 pellets in head & neck

70 yards - 19 pellets in head & neck (I aimed right on, but noticed that if I had aimed a little higher, I would have had even better results)

I was very, very pleased and was shooting free-hand with no rest.

That is AWESOME mine will be in tomorrow, and I can't WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. I'm just scared to shoot it because of reading this.

Can I use my current Remington shotgun/choke with new Hevi-Shot Turkey Loads?

Yes. Remington has extensively tested Hevi-Shot through various Rem-Chokes. The top-selling choke, diameter and resulting Hevi-Shot pattern percentages are as follows:

    Ventilator (.655") 87% 30" circle, 40 yards

    Full - Lead Only (.691") 88% "

    Full - Lead or Steel (.691") 88% "

    Turkey Extra Full (.687") 92% "

    Turkey Super Full (.665") 93% "

    NEW Hevi-Shot (.675") 94% "

Tighter chokes than .665" do not improve pattern percentages to any extent and in fact begin to produce more open patterns.

Hevi-Shot can produce cosmetic rub marks in barrels and chokes, simply a change in surface finish. Over an equal number of rounds, this rubbing is similar to that experienced with steel shot. Both materials create more choke strain than lead shot due to a more solid payload. With the Remington wad column, the Hevi-Shot pellets rest on a cushioned pad in the shot container that allows the pellets to flow better through the choke. In addition, the Remington Hevi-Shot shot container is much thicker than previous Hevi-Shot loaded rounds and that thickness minimizes pellet contact with the barrel or choke.
