Join the club. This seems to be a prevailant problem with the SBE's. Mine is doing it too, haven't figured out the solution yet.
It's called stove pipeing.
-
Yes, I replaced the mag spring, Hammer spring and recoil spring. I have completely disassembled the bolt group and cleaned, several times.
You ask about fully closing or a light bump on the butt of the stock. When the fireing pin doesn't hit the primer it is always a second or third shot, never the first. Why would the bolt not close all the way? And what causes the gun to stovepipe?
-
Last year I got a good deal on an SBE I. I took it out to the marsh and it was great...for about a month. then it started to give me problems. Firepin not hitting the primer occasionally, Also on occasion the bolt would not rotate and when I would try to load another shell into the tube it wouldn't go in. And sometimes it would not eject the shell.
Towards the end of last season I found out about Wolff gun springs. I prdered me a set and installed them. I crossed my fingers.
Well, I'm still having the same problems. I am very frusterated with this gun. You would think that for the price of these firearms they would not have problems like these. I'm at a loss and don't know what to do.
I really like the way the gun feels that is why I chose the Benelli but with all these problems I'm seriously thinking of selling it and getting an Extrema II.
Can anyone help me out and swing my opinion of Benelli?

I don't want to spend a ton of money buying several chokes. So what would you guys suggest.
I'm shooting 3 1/2 Kent, and Win #2's mostly.
This choke will be for pass shooting, reaching out to 40 yrds.
Thanks for you help.

I haven't had the gun out shooting, since the seasons have now closed But I simulated it. I closed the bolt but didn't let it rotate all the way and tried to load a shell. It did exactly the same thing that I was having problems with. I just gotta make sure I don't ease the bolt forward as that was what I was doing and that was hindering the full rotation of the head.

After seeing this I don't think anyone should be complaining about a little kick.
I would never do this but, the kid has heart!

Thanks, guys. I'll giver her another look.

I hope that someone can help me out with this annoyance. I haven't heard of anyone having this problem with there SBE.
What happens is that after shooting all three rounds (wich has never failed me) I have to close the action without dropping a shell in. then load the mag and pull the action back and drop one in. If I drop one in hit the release and then try to load the mag it will not go into the tube. The shell goes in at too steep of a pitch and gets wedged about half way in. Almost like the bottom of the ramp (right terminology??) is at the wrong angle.
I bought the gun in November and it started doing this in December. Any thoughts???
Other than this annoyance the gun has treated me well.

Hey thanks, that was fast and I think that is exactly what I need.

That is so good it sounds like an advertisment. Good job!

I have a guy that wants to by my Nova. But I have a hard time selling a gun to someone when the gun is registered in my name, especially to someone that I don't know.
Is there paperwork or something that can be filled out and sent in and can I find the documents on the net and print them off?
Any help is appreciated.

Hey, that is great! I wish I could remember the link for waterfowl cleaning. I'll try and explain it but without pics it's hard to vision.
Pluck a line of feathers out down the breast. Now hold the bird in both hands with your thumbs on it's breast bone. Push down and split the skin. Work you fingers under the skin and work it all the way down past is legs and up and around the wings.
Push you thumb or finger into the hole were the neck comes out and try and seperate the tissue. Next push your thumb threw the membrane were the breast bone ends and lift up on it.
Now fold the head and neck down behind it's back grabbing it along with both legs in one hand. Grab the breast with the other with your thumb under the breast and lift and pull apart.
What you will have left is a completely gutted bird with the wings still attached with feathers for identification.
This is great for out in the feild. I am one that believes the faster you cool your game the better table fare it will be. This still allows identification of the bird if checked by wildlife officers.
Well, I couldn't find the link I was looking for but this one is basically the same thing and will work a little better with the bigger birds.

I voted for NortWest because I love my Elk. I'd really like to make it to Alaska or Canada somwhere for Caribou and Bear too. A whitetail hunt would be fun but nothing can replace my elk hunting. All my hunts would be with a bow of course.

That sure is a cute pup. Kinda reminds me of this pup a few years ago.

I received my springs today and quickly went to changing them out. Had a hard time stuffing that magazine spring in the tube but I finally got it. Just a hint for anyone else who might doe this. Use a guide rod to keep the spring from popping out the side on ya.
Took a little effort to break the recoil spring retaining nut but I finally got it with a little heat. I was surprised at how gunky it was in there. I've only had my gun for 2 months but I have used it a lot.
Looking at the replacment hammer spring I thought no way does that look right. It is a lot shorter and bigger around. I pulled the original out and tried to drop the new spring in but it just doesn't fit. I tried a little pressure, no go. The dia. of the coil is too big to fit in the "spring houseing." (don't know if that is the proper term but it sounds good.)
Has anyone else had this problem? The springs are labeled right, just trying to figure out whats wrong???
I'll call them Monday and see what Wolff says.

Nice pinners, how long was it's sprig?
Here is a few more that fell to the SBE

Sissy!!! LOL...no offense.
-
How does the Inertia Spring work in conjunction with the recoil spring. I thought they were the same thing but the Inertia is in the bolt and the recoil in in the stock.

What a bunch of wusses!

Thanks tucker.

I've mixed different shell lengths and brands and I have yet to have a miss fire. The only time it went "click" was when the shell didn't fire. The primer was struck so it was a bad shell. The first one in my life, but it was last years left over.

I'm sorry if this has been coverd before. I did a search but nothing came up.
I am familiar with barrel cleaning for rifles but when it comes to shotguns I'm not real sure.
I just aquired an SBE and love the gun. I'm hitting everything I shoot at...well okay, I do miss on occasion but my percentages are way up.
Now that I have shot if a few times I'm curious as to cleaning the barrel. I have a 12ga. brush and swab. I did my best at cleaning it tonight but after a couple passes with the swab it was pretty dirty on the front end. Do I just keep using it until it's dirty all the way and then throw it out? It seams that after a couple cleanings it would be useless, unlesh you can throw them in the washer and clean them?
Any tips out there?
Oh, by the way I found the break down of the firing pin and inertia system quite simple.

Me too. I know one thing. After the season it is going back to Benelli. When I get it back if it doesn't work right I'm selling it and getting an Extrema II or SX3.
Either way I don't think I will buy another benelli. My confidence in them is shot! (pun intended)
