  1. Here is the link to the pics. Let me know if they don't work http://new.photos.yahoo.com/jimmkreider/album/576460762399989961
  2. Well, what I can do is return the pure gold and order a Jelly Head, or I could try heavy shot. Problem is, I don't plan on shooting it since its so expensive. I guess I should decide soon since I need to return it in the next couple of days to get the refund. How does the .660 do close up? I thought the pure gold was plenty tight putting the entire pattern in a 12-14" circle at 20 yards (I would say about 85% was in an 8" circle)
  3. Did some shooting yesterday. SBE II 24" barrel, Pure Gold .670. 3" No. 6s Winchester Supreme: 192-220 pellets in 10" circle @ 30yds 3.5" No. 5s Winchester Supreme: 66 pellets in 10" circle @ 40yds @ 20 yards entire pattern fit in approx. 14" circle What do you think? Should I keep the choke? I do have pics but not sure if I can get them up today or not. It was shooting a bit to the right so I'll have to look into trying the shims. Thanks
  4. I know the high density stuff is better, and I might try some of my friend's hevy shot as well. On the other hand, the 20+ lb bird I shot last year with a 10.5" beard didn't go anywhere, and I was using those Winchester 3" 2oz. 6s with a Winchester extra full choke. Shot was at 45 yards. I figure the 3.5" 5's should do just as well, since they are a good bit faster and bigger. We'll see once I pattern. Also, if anyone has good results with high density shot and this choke tube, I'll be sure to try it once I can afford the shells, but I haven't been able to find anything so far. I will say those Nitros 4x5x7 look very tempting
  5. Since I have yet to see any results from the pure gold .670 on the web, I decided to give it a shot (pun intended ). I also ordered a box of Winchester Supreme 3.5" 2oz. 5's to test. I may also try some Winchester 3" 2oz. 6's that I shot out of my NWTF Win. 1300. I'm getting married next week so I didn't want drop the extra $$$ for the high density stuff. I'll post the results when I get the goods. I plan to pattern against a 4'x4' sheet of paper fastened to a skid, at multiple ranges. Any other tips? I shoot a 24" SBE II.
  6. I think I finally decided to go with the Pure Gold because it has a .670 constriction which is a bit less than the jelly head .660, so it should do better at closer ranges. Its hard not to go with the jelly head since its a good price and everybody seems to have awesome results with #6s, but I think the Pure Gold will be more versitile with different shot types. Also, .670 should be tight enough considering last year I killed a 20 lb+ bird at 45 yrds with my win. 1300 using 3" #6's and the stock extra full choke! Too bad I didn't decide sooner, as I was just at Cabelas this past saturday, which seems to be the only place that sells them!
  7. What about the Pure Gold or Mad Max? The Pure Gold is a bit pricey, but the constriction is a little less, which sounds good to me as I don't want to miss birds at 15 yards like my friends:rolleyes: However, the Jelly Head is only a portion of the price and proven to be one of the best. Anyone have reports on the Pure Gold?
  8. That Rhino sounds like a pretty good option. .673 is less constriction, correct? The only problem with the Rhino is that they are a bit pricey ~$80 right? Thats about 2x as much as a jelly head. I normally would pay extra for something better, but I have to be conscious of my budget as I'm getting married in a month and will have more bills to pay. My parents purchased the gun for me as a graduation gift (since you were probably wondering how I had a $1400 gun yet couldn't afford $40 extra )
  9. I got a SBEII last summer and am looking for a turkey choke, but I have a few questions. First of all, I want a choke that reaches out pretty well and maintains a good pattern at say, 40 yards, but I don't want a pattern that is so tight at 15 yds that its easy to miss (espec. when you are excited). With this in mind, what constriction do I want? Some tubes give an option of going ported or non-ported. My only concern with the ported ones is loudness. Is a ported choke tube going to hurt my ears like a rifle w/ muzzle break, or is it not as severe? Some Briley tubes have "straight rifling", which they claim reduces swirl and helps keep the pattern consistent. Has anyone tried this? If so, how do they stack up against others? Some chokes are formulated especially for heavy shot. Can you use plain old lead through these tubes as well? Thanks in advance for all the help!
