  1. The safety button on my SBE2 is really stiff, and can be difficult to take off when shouldering quickly for a fast shot. Is there any way that it can be fixed with out becoming too loose and therefore unsafe?

Thanks, hope to hear something soon.

I have my SBE2 set up with the rifled barrel, and at 100 yards I can hit the target exactly one inch high, dead center all say long! One hole groups are too easy! With an exact drop of 7 inches at 200 yards, it couldn't be more easy. I love the set up, my father and I went out a few years ago when I first got my SBE2 and with his 40 sum odd years of hunting experience, this set up made his jaw drop. I wouldn't trade it for nothing.

By the way, I have it topped off with the Burris scope featured on Benelli's website under Optics. I love the scope. My only gripe is at full 7 power every once in a while I'll get a little too close and end up with a busted brow. I blame that mostly on my thick hunting coat not allowing me to get a good proper rest on my shoulder. Either way, I fully recommend this entire set up, I really cant praise it enough.

As for regular shot shells, I love Kent's. I use #6 Kent Upland for squirrels with a full choke, not a problem at all. They really have the "oompf" needed for those tough lil things out at 30 or 40 yards. For rabbits I just use cheep-o Winchester shells, what ever is on sale that week at the local Wal-Mart, it all works, dead is dead, the rabbit wont know any different.

  3. shooting to wound is just piss poor advice.

Maybe so, just my opinion. I'm not going to risk sitting in jail the rest of my life while my family doesn't have me to work and pay the bills. I just don't trust the legal system with my fate when I'm on the chopping block for possible murder/manslaughter.

Maybe I'm thinking further down the road... you do you in your situation if they come and I'll do me in my situation. I'll leave it all at that.

  4. I said nothing about loading loading either a lethal or a non-lethal round, always load with your regular rounds. You never know whats going to happen. However, a shot in the leg is considered non-lethal. It has nothing to do with loading lethal or non lethal rounds in the spur of the moment.

  5. Agreed, you shouldn't even PULL your gun unless you need/intend to shoot. If there's no need to shoot, you don't feel you're in danger. But if you do feel you need to shoot, that implies that you fear for your life and need to defend yourself with lethal force.

I asked my instructor about having my first round in my 12 gauge a non-lethal (bean bag/rubber slug etc) for legality purposes (to show I didn't intend to kill). His point is that (and it follows the principles of self defense shooting IMHO) IF you are to the point of pulling your gun, you are to the point of HAVING to shoot. If you have to shoot (i.e. you pulled your gun), you believe it's a life and death situation and you need drop the assailant before they kill you. If you are pulling your gun at unarmed thieves or don't think your life is in danger, that’s another story...

Don't know if that's exactly what you're saying, and that's just my opinion (I've been wrong before :) ) and I'm just passing along one instructors view.

I agree with you, with out a doubt, but I would much rather cover my own a$$ a little bit and risk it with a non-lethal shot first. What you said is very true, but all the millions of people against gun control will never agree with you if you're on trial. If you have some one dead in your house, you shot and gun haters will most likely, in my opinion vote against you. By all means, do what you feel you have to and what you have been thought. I'm certainly not trying to change your mind or opinions, personally, I would just go non-lethal first for the sake of having that on my side in court. It most certainly helps.

If my family is in danger then I'm going with your view on it  if they're not in immediate danger then I'm doing what i can to save myself in court.

  6. Hmmm, my state certified CCW instructor (who's a cop and trains Law Enforcement as part of his position) said, if in a situation that you need to pull your weapon (i.e. you’re going to shoot in self defense) that you keep pulling the trigger 'till the assailant drops. A non-lethal shot means they can still kill you (which defeats the purpose of defending yourself). Just passing along what they teach.

IF I ever have to go to court (and I hope I'll never be in the position to have to shoot), that'll be part of my defense (that's how the state approved CCW trainer instructed me). Not saying it’ll work, but 20 years of Mil service showed me there’s reasons they teach certain things, and (even if I didn’t listen when I was young) it’s usually a good, sound reasoning behind it, especially when you have to react without much time to think out every detail (which is why we train and prepare). But local laws differ, so I might be wrong :)

Thats why I emphasized the "need" in my first post. A shot in the back or a dead robber that still has his weapon holstered can't look too good on you...

  7. Hello all, I'm looking for an extra full or super full choke crio choke for a SBE2. Where could I find the Benelli made special purpose chokes online? All I have seen are Carlsons, Briley and other after market makers, if I can stay with factory made chokes then I would like to.

If theres a better choke, either better quality or better patterns over all then info would be great. I know every gun patterns differently but if it has a good track record then I'll give it a try.

  8. In regards to all the people that said they shoot to kill and are willing to take the court system on with all good hopes, just keep in mind that you easily have multiple shots and in court its almost impossible to defend a robber that has two rounds in him, a first non-lethal followed by a lethal if necessary.

My point is, unless you NEED the first shot to cause death, its a **** of a lot easier for your lawyer to defend you if your first shot was non-lethal. Theres no court room that would go against that. Regardless of the state or laws. If your life is in danger and you still have the level head to go with a non-lethal approach to the situation then the jury will be able to see that with no problems at all.

I'm still no lawyer or am I in law school, but it has been said many times in the world of self defense. By instructors, teachers and the such.

  9. I think the only thing I'd "need" is a light. Any problems with an old M1 HK version with extended mag tube and a light attachment?

    I dont believe so.

And another thought, if its a home defense gun, then why would you be using light loads? That shouldn't be a problem. Its not a field gun where true diversity is needed. It has one set purpose, to take down a bad guy. Thats "big game", thats a heavy load kinda deal.

You need diversity only for field use, from doves to geese or quail to ducks... light to heavy loads. Not for defense.

My point being, you can have two attachments and be fine with an M2 being used for home defense. What more do you really need other then feeding your obsession by keeping up with the Jones'?

  10. Right... so after reading all six pages of this fiasco, I have come to a very simple conclusion...

If you want to have a tacti-cool gun and be like Rambo with have a metric **** ton of stuff hanging off your gun then the M4 is for you, if not and you only need a sling and/or mag tube then the M2 is just as great.

Other then that its a whole 1.5 pound difference, thats all personal preference.

Sooo correct me if I am wrong, but both weapons are Benelli's and both have great reputations and the known Benelli quality, therefore, theres just no difference.

  11. I didnt know I would get this many responses in such a short time, I like it :D:p

A bunch of different opinions and reasons, all very valid. The number one thing that comes to mind is the availability of either a long gun or a side arm. As truckcop said, you can have a pistol with you, always at hand. But with a shotgun, exactly how long will it take you to access it in a surprise attack? Not everything happens at night when you're in your bedroom where I believe most people keep their defense gun. Or if you keep it by your front door, it's just too long to get it up and pointed if something does happen while answering the door.

Of course 00 Buck is always a crowd pleaser when it comes to home defense and for good reason, but is there any thought of collateral damage? 00 Buck compared to drywall, who's the winner? Whats behind that drywall? More importantly who? Your sound asleep daughter or son? Maybe a neighbor in an apartment? With a pistol theres less possible holes in the wall...

Just a few thoughts that come to mind while reading your personal reasons why you all chose what you did.

But keep it all coming, I like reading what you all think and why.

  12. Let me start off by saying this is supposed to be asking for OPINIONS, I am certainly not trying to start a war or anything by saying one is any better than the other.

With that said, which do you prefer for home defense? A shotgun or a pistol? Certainly each has its ups and its downs, so personally which would you rather have and why?

  13. I think hognuts did a pretty decent job describing the basics and the majority of it. As he said, it is really just common sense. Advances in firearms and powders in the past years have made it really easy on cleaning and upkeep. With the metals used in the firearm and the powder used nowadays, it is no where near as corrosive as it once was. It's quite easy to keep a gun in tip top shape.

With that said, theres one thing that my grandfather and my father always told me, oil on a gun never hurt a damn thing. ;)

  14. Thanks for the replies guys. Sorry Ive taken so long to post back, just been busy lately. As for the bolts, I have come to like the stainless steel one, the shape, not the color. I dont believe stainless would look good on an APG camo gun, but I do like the shape.

Do either of you guys have one? is it too big? I dont want one thats massive. Just something thats slightly easier to use with gloves. Thats why I liked the grooved one in the catalog. It just speaks out to me haha

  15. I want a replacement bolt handle for my SBE2 but I don't want the stock one, I want one of the round barrel type ones (ITEM #61065). I have two concerns, first off will it even fit my SBE2? It says M1014 next to the item number in the catalog so would it fit my gun or does this style only go for the M1014? And if so where can I get one? Would I have to contact an authorized Benelli dealer, or is there any type of after market replacement that fits the bill?

Hope to hear back soon, thanks for the help.

  16. Since no one knew and there were 30 sum odd views I decided to find out by contacting Benelli. This is what I got...

Crio treatment as you may already know, relieves the stresses in the barrel caused by hammer forging. This process creates a smoother and more uniform surface helping the barrel pattern better and stay cleaner. Since the slug barrels have rifling this process won’t work. It is designed for smooth bore barrels. Hope this helps. You can also click the link below for more info on the Crio process.

  17. I have a SBE2 with a rifled barrel. Using the sabot slugs suggested by Benelli and a Burris scope its deadly lethal out to 200 yards. Here in Maryland up until a few years ago it was rifle but due to over building and over population they changed it to shotgun only in most of the state, there are some regions that still allow rifle use, but thats why I looked into the SBE2 in the first place and I have no regrets. People from years ago had their jaws dropped when I sighted it in. 100 yards for a shotty is unheard of but i can get a ragged one hole group easily...

I would assume the rifled barrel would give you the same performance from a Nova. This is assuming its not smoothbore only.

    Hoe I helped!

  18. I haven't used a Winchester or a Mossberg, no. I have used a Remington 870 though. But it was not mine and I only took it apart once so I'm no pump expert. I didn't know about the long term affects of taking the pins out over and over. Anyways, like you said, none of them come with a tool, and I goofed when taking the 870 apart and missed with the punch... not going to say what happened there... use your imagination lol That's why I was interested with the end cap so much, it threw me for a loop.

  19. Thank you both very much, especially for the quick response! It sounded complicated but after looking at that manual it really is pretty simple. Theres two things that concern me, however. The 2 pins holding the trigger, how difficult are they to get out? Do they become loose after time or after so many times of removing them? Also, the end cap used to take the pins out, could it scratch the receiver if it happened to slip off the pins? Or is it not made or metal like I am assuming?

Thanks again for the help and warm welcome!

  20. Let's start off by saying I have a SBE2 and I just can't praise it enough, absolutely love it. With that aside, I am looking for a pump, well Benelli offers two. The only thing thats really holding me back from buying it is I don't know how it comes apart. That's one thing I really like about my SBE2 is how easily it comes apart to clean and within a few seconds I can have it completely apart and cleaned. How exactly does the Nova/SuperNova break down? Would it be a hassle to tear it down every time I use it and clean it? Or do you not mind?

Thanks for reading, hope to get a few responses!
