Yes, a 3" chamber will safely handle 2¾" and 3" shells. For upland birds, many people start with Improved Cylinder or Modified chokes depending on the distance, but it may also be worth checking which factory chokes are rated for steel shot.

Limited editions do appreciate sometimes, but unless they remain unfired and in pristine condition, they rarely increase enough to outweigh years of ownership and the memories that come with passing them down.
