Extended safety for M1/M4

Is a extended safety for a M1 the same as for the M4, Im also having a hard time removing the stock charging handle from my M4, any tricks to due that-Thanks:confused:

Some folks have wrapped something around it like a shoelace to help pull it out. I've never had much problem with mine.
