Questions about reloading technique for Benelli M4

Hello,

 

I recently purchased a 11707 M4 and have been trying to practice weak hand reloads; however my thumb keeps getting cut by the side of the loading port to the point that it actually sheds blood.

 

Is there anything I can do to the weapon itself to prevent this?
