Alaska Waterfowler Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Hi Everyone...new SBEII and a new member. What should I use that won't damage the camo finish? I came home from the gun shop with CLP, Hoppes Elite Field cleaner and Hoppes #9. Do I need to only clean internal parts and no cleaners on the camo prior to using Benelli oil and wiping dry? I know about DEET. Any other suggestions before hunting besides 100 rounds of heavy loads, pattern and clean again? Thanks Quote
tucker301 Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Do not apply any of those products to the camo finish. Clean the camo with a damp cloth and mild detergents. Quote
Paolo Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 What if your camo has a few chip spots ... then would you suggest putting oil to protect those spots from rusting out? My brother bought a new SBEII last September and he babies the thing and it has chips on the barrel. If he ever had to re-camo the gun, can they apply it over the existing camo? Paul Quote
tucker301 Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Yes, if there is exposed metal, it should be protected by a light application of oil. No solvents. Camo finsihes are applied through a dipping process. I would suggest fully removing the factory finish and then applying a new one, but I supposed it could be done either way. Quote
