Removing a M4 field stock

Trying to remove the field stock that came on my M4 And replace it with a pistol grip stock. However after removing the trigger assembly and starting to turn the stock, it wont back off the receiver. It just turns in place. I’m sure I’m over looking something simple. Please help.
