Do I need a different handguard for a light?

Do I need to get a new handguard in order to put a light on?

I have a benelli m4 and I want to get a light on it (no idea which one) and a sling (also not sure where to look) Do I need to change the oem handguard to an m lok handguard first? And the pic rail on it? I see midwest industries has one with the pic rail attachment that comes with it.

It’s out of stock on their site, but is that what I need?

Yes they work with the oem hanguard.  Personally I prefer using the oem hanguard over mlok.  These light mounts have a qd socket to mount a sling.

Great, thank you. I will very likely just go this route. That link you provided has options for a mount and light together, all done then.

You're welcome.  Here is my setup:

 

I run the arisaka 300 series scout light as it is light weight and the m4 is already a fairly heavy gun.

That looks great, my m4 is black with no pistol grip (not allowed in Illinois, unfortunately), I will probably copy your exact setup!

 

Do you get a big shadow from the barrel with the light? Does it not even matter?

you will get a shadow with that setup but it beats no light, that mount is traditionally the best setup along with stippled oem handguards.  here it is on my entry

Nice, so I’ll just buy the light & mount combo and I’m set, right? Is installation difficult?

How do you control the light on your shotguns? I briefly read of a pressure switch, not sure what that is.
