M4 Question about Cartridge Drop Lever

Please excuse the "dumb" question.

lf a round is chambered with the safety on, will activation of the Cartridge Drop Lever (CDL) fire the round?

I know activating the CDL drops the hammer, but I assume the round in the chamber is not fired.

Activating the CDL should not drop the hammer, but dropping the hammer DOES activate the CDL.

When you activate the CDL a shell is released from the magazine tube. Activating the CDL does NOT make the hammer fall or the gun to fire.

When the trigger is pulled and the hammer falls the CDL is activated by the falling hammer (which allows a shell to be released from the magazine tube).

Now that I reread my original post, I realize how stupid my question was!!!
