A buffer for amature polishing

I am looking into gettin a buffer and all that they have at the Home Depot and Lowes are hand buffers that just don't seem the same.

 

I would appreciate anyone that could advise me on the subject. I looked at the ine they have at brownells and I am unsure if I should order something I know that little about online.

What are you polishing? Assuming you're not actually polishing an amatuer.

 

For wood, I use finely ground pumice and lemon oil.

For metal, I use Flitz.

I am polishing metal surfaces. for both preperation for bluing and for polishing already blued surfaces.

 

Will a hand buffer work the same as a table buffer?

I used the word amature to indicate the fact that I am not looking for professional shine that "perfect"
