I just purchased a new SBE II Black Synthetic and was very disappointed by the quality of the barrel finish. It seems like a very thin coating, and it even has a few light scratches that show bare steel. I watched the factory seal on the box opened, so I'm sure the gun was not handled before me....is this a bad apple or are they all like this.

All like that. My SBE rusted in front of me on its first hunt in the salt marsh last year, even having a coat of corrosion-x on it before the hunt. My Nova, circa '99 is much better. I had my SBE dipped and bought my SBEII camo just for that reason.

Yep, it's a bit on the economy side.

I coat with Breakfree CLP and wipe it down.

For some reason, it seems to keep the finish black and pretty decent looking.

Maybe the CLP just sticks well?
