adamlau Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 More fodder for the S-12 crowd: Both rear sight screws failed to handle the tensile forces of tightening with a screwdriver. Although failure of the rear sight screws due to the shear forces of recoil have been recorded, I could not have imagined that hand tightening with a screwdriver could have resulted in this: Note that the screw on the left has been sheared short. SgtCathy Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 In the picture, it looks like both screws are hollow. If this is the case, then the walls against the threads are very thin and thusly fragile. If at all possible, see if you can obtain solid screws (perhaps from a gunsmith or hardware store) and try again. I've seen this kind of damage a few times, especially with the screws supplied when mounting a cheap .22 scope. Quote
adamlau Posted May 21, 2008 Author Posted May 21, 2008 Benelli will be sending out replacement screws to be torqued to 20 inch-lbs with an application of Loctite 242 . Quote
