I just got home from being on the Range for 10 hours, another Benelli M4 Transition School, I settled in and logged into the Forum, saw this and brought it up.
OMG!
My sides hurt so much I'll need traction.

Just joined a local Sports Club for me and the boy. Years ago owned several OUs for Trap / Skeet.
Can I get some opinions and reasons behind which Benelli autoloader will work best for both? BBl length? Which eats all ammo? and so forth......

No the H1/T1 does not co-witness either, i'll look at whatever comes out if it does co-witness but I don't think we'll see that.
I have not seen any deforming yet, but, I do not regulary remove the sight. Again, I really have a more specific use for the removal.
I wish there was a cheekpiece offered like the ones on some of the other Benelli shotguns, it would raise your weld and then the LaRue would be on my weapon, they make an outstanding mount.

So you have removed/replaced this optic several times with no sign of POI changing when using slugs?
It holds up reliably to 3" slugs (what killed my LaRue in a dozen rounds w/stock rail?
I know you have handled LaRue (and apparently ARMS) mounts. How does this mount "Feel" in comparison. Is it on the same level of well-oiled-maching type quality?
ETA: Correct, spelling is not my forte. I much prefer the spoken english language to the written.
From what I understand, you adjust the lever by tightening/loosening the "nut" on the other side of the mount and then lok-titing it in place after you find where it belongs?
The design of this mount is VERY appealing, my concern is over the quality/durability/repeatability.
Don't take any offense to the following but,
Why do you care about zero if removed? Only an amateur would rely on an optical sight that was removed and then reinstated to take a shot that would save a life. The main reason the lever is there is to get rid of the sight if it fails, thus giving you unencumbered access to your iron sights. Any time you reinstall a sight, optical or iron, your zero should be checked prior to use. Even the best can be off an inch or more at 100 yards, thats unacceptable if the target is holding your child.
I have not fired it with 3" slugs. The Slugs we use are more than enough at the proven ranges.
The setup is as you stated. Until someone comes out with a lower sight that allows co-witness, this is what I'll use.

If you read these threads carefully you'll see that the part most likely to fail on an M4 is the big one that fits just behind the butt pad.

I too have looked into this unit.
Concerns of mine:
Does it have repeat zero?
Does the pressure on the screw cause stretching of said screw?
Does AIMPOINT even manufacture it? I wager that they buy it from someone else.
The fact that the lever is a caste part bodes not well based on tonnes of broken ARMS levers littering most military ranges.
Repeats Zero without a problem.
No sign of screw or lever failure, on my duty weapon for 2 months, at least 100rds fired. I'm betting my life on it right now.
I don't really care who manufacturers it.
Never broke a cast ARMS lever and have been on a great share of Military ranges, both square and live, never saw a ton of levers.

We tested many of the "low" mounts out there including LaRue. Although they were good mounts, all of them raised the sight enough that a proper cheek weld was lost with the standard stock. That said, we tested Aimpoints own LRP, a little known accessory ($32) that replaces the screw system on the H1 / T1 systems that we have gone with. This is the lowest possible combination and works very well in "field" use. I will try to post a picture later, but for now here is what the system consists of.

Due to the unique way the stock on the M4 rotates and unlocks, it needs to be flush for the lugs to engage, placing a spacer in there causes the problem and the GG&G does not function. We did a pretty good search on it and spoke to manufacturers to see if it was feasible, all said no without turning down ( modifying) the neck of the stock.

You should have your "Friend" check with his local FFL Dealer, he should steer him in the right direction. There are many here and on other sites that would say it's OK. It's not. It will take a bit more than the tube to satisfy the Importation Law.

That's correct. he must buy it from a licensed CA Dealer. He can have it sent into the State to his Dealer but make the arrangements first, certain new laws require your out of state Dealer to get a "permission" letter from CA before shipping it in to the State. The Dealers in CA got together to cry over the fact that out of state Dealers gave better deals!

I have an Armalite AR-15A4 with a 1/9 twist. I read somewhere that 1/9s aren't good for firing anything over 62gr. Would I be able to get an M4 complete upper with a 1/7 twist and have it still be compatible?
1 in 7 with the notched bbl is the standard M4 profile. It will handle a wider available range of ammunition the the 1 in 9.

I would highly doubt its lethal and would not use it for home defense.
Although it isn't the most accurate projectile around and it's not a primary choice for defense, the round is VERY LETHAL. The Breacher, if faced with a Tango, as he approaches the door or while in position can effectively use a breaching round to engage the Tango and neutralize it.

You may run into headspacing problems, so your best bet is to buy a complete upper M4 receiver. Check the offsets on your front pin to see if A) you have mil spec pin, B) the new upper has mil spec pins. Just as Hookster stated, conversion pins are available in either direction.

Thank u for your info everyone but iam not an LEO and i do not have an FFL. In fact iam soon to be a CA resident. In other words Iam F***ed. I like the pic and thanks again.
There are no private "Tax Stamps" in California. So don't stress yourself in finding one and buying it only to be denied in our "Fair" State. You must have CA DOJ permits for SBS, SBR, MG, DD or the like in order to Sell, Rent or Demo those type of weapons.

There is a CDL, Cartridge Drop Lever, near the trigger guard, when it is pressed it allows a round from the mag tube to enter the "pre chamber" area" then racking the bolt loads the weapon. When you fire the weapon it automatically engages that lever.

The CDL is a feature unique to Benelli's. The standard factory choke is (lll) Modified and shoots slugs without a problem, in fact, we qualify at 100 yards with the combination. Like anything else check your ammunition against the choke prior to using it and fire small groups to check for accuracy.

I have she Surefire aluminum 3 rail that replaces the factory foreend.
Works perfectly and looks bad ass. I have a surfure light underneath and a light activator pad on the side. The other rails are covered with the thin AR-15 rubber rail covers so they dont' cut.
I recommend it.
I have to agree, it's a working setup, hundreds of rounds and not one problem...

I actually bought a "Benelli Tactical" baseball cap on eBay cause it's always out of stock, nothing else to put on the weapon, so bought something for me!!!

What "we" have found to be helpfull is a shotbag up front and an angled one to the rear, will cut the recoil significantly.
Also, remember the standard choke on the M4 is really designed for 00 Buck and you should step "open" a size to tighten your slug groups.
My "test" showed a need for a choke size between "IC" and "Mod". BlackBore (GTPSC) is doing a test and will be coming out with a "Tactical" Choke, should fill the bill nicely.
