  1. Yeah, price is good, you may sit on it for a small time, but it will sell at that price.

Agreed. I paid about $600 more than his opening price for my collapsable stock version. I think I got a good price, but seeing the collapsable stocks going for as low as $700 now, I didn't exactly make out.

  2. It has only been a month since purchase of his tube for me, so I haven't had the long-standing history of some. That being said, ANY communication from Kip would be greatly appreciated. ****, even if he is too busy, a family member of his could maybe log in and chime in. If he is still posting gunbroker ads, atleast he didn't get hit by a bus. I remember on a part I was waiting for on a past vehicle of mine, the guy who was making the parts actually got into a motorcycle accident and died. It was only a few months later when his wife discovered his arrangement with his customers did we find this out.

  3. I've found even when aligned PERFECTLY, if you are holding the reciever vertical, it won't slide in. Tilt it down horizontally, and it SLIPS in with minimal effort. I don't have any expanation for this. It just is finicky. I'm sure over time this will loosen up, but it is indeed somewhat baffling as to why it won't go in even when aligned perfectly.

  4. Update:

My order arrived today to my surprise, one day early.

I already installed the charging handle, which was pretty stright forward. Weight wise it feels real light, almost as light as the stocker. I put a coat of gun oil on the threads before I stuck it in my gun.

There shouldn't have been threads on it. Can you elaborate? I honestly would have passed on that as they bend easily, but for the price, minimal pain when it does.

As for the bolt carrier release, I'll wait for my bro to bring home his punch set from his job, then I will attempt to install it.

In the instructions it says use a bit of locktite on the screw... is it ok to use loctite blue? I dont want it to be permanent by using the red though..

I wouldn't put ANY loctite on an allen head bolt. They strip SO easily. Just tighten it down per the instructions. Again, use TWO punches when reinstalling it. One to align the release lever, the other to drive the pin in. The pin will push the bottom punch out as it is only there for alignment. Check inside with a flashlight to ensure you have properly centered the pin between the retaining rails(you have to look inside from the muzzle end to do this). I find this easiest to do with barrel, magazine, and bolt removed.

  5. GG&G makes the best as far as I can tell. Pricey, but a quality product, and new rollpin+spring+release lever with the metal pad you affix with the allen head bolt. Installed two now on two M4s, slick as silk, and a nice product.

  6. When I got my m4 a few years ago, it actually came in a decent red box with pre cut styrofoam insides.

    like this one

The outside of my box looked like that, but had no foam inside. Just preformed cardboard dividers. It was some of the worst packaging I've ever seen. I'll take a pic if I remember, but I was somewhat appaled at how these suckers are shipped.

  7. My real concern is why the gun shop that assembled it felt free to leave that piece out. Looking back I wish i had assembled the whole thing myself straight out of the box to be certain.

Indeed, that gun shop is not to be trusted. Although, your extension magazine MAY have an internal shoulder to hold the spring, but I doubt it.

Also, just to clarify, when i squeeze the 2 sides of the clip in and force it into the tub, this will take place about midway up the barrel with the 5 shot and the spring does not come into contact either way with the magazine spring tube cap.

With your 5-shot magazine, you install it BEFORE you put on the dummy extender. With the 2+ extension, the retainer goes in the muzzle end of the extension tube after you've already affixed the extension to the factory magazine. There would be nothing to hold your spring in otherwise except the tube cap with the 2+ extension on it.

Thanks again for your prompt replies, I feel considerably better knowing what I need to do.

Any time, it should make perfect sense when you look at it and get it in the mag tube.

  8. It is in essence an interference fit. The reason it fits flush with the tube is that you have to compress it (squeeze the two sides together where the notch is via the two small holes, or when inserting it, your had works just as well if not better). If it wasn't so late, I'd pull mine out and take a pic for you. You need it. Find it.

  9. Also, there was a part that had not been installed - the spring retaining clip which was left out with the original 5-shot mag and apparently not installed by the gunshop.

VERY easy to damage the spring without the retainer in place when tightening the magazine cap. Bad, Bad, Bad.

When re-installing i carefully reached the part where you install the spring retaining clip and much to my dismay the retainer did not even fit in the mag but rather was the same diameter and has no chance of going into the tube (this was confusing as I did not originally disassemble it and the manual instructions made no sense with the 5 shot mag).

You do realize that it is a spring itself like a snap ring, but instead of being held in place via shoulders like a snap ring, it simply holds itself in place via friction with the sides of the magazine.

When i went to double check the user manual, the spring slipped from my grasp and shot that retaining clip to god knows where.

Were you in the middle of the woods when doing this? WHat the **** do you mean God knows where? Look for the sucker.

So, do I actually need that part that did not even properly fit in the 5-shot mag? Or can the weapon function fine without it?

I wouldn't risk it without it. It is there for a reason. The spring could get twisted and bound up on the cap if its not sitting fluch in the retainer.

Or, even if it is fine without it in the 5-shot, will I need it for a better 7 shot extension and spring combo?

    FIND IT.

  10. I used 3/32" to drive the pin out. I was slightly loose in the bore. I used 5/64" to drive the pin back in while holding it in alignment with the 3/32" snapon punch. I would guess that the pin is actually a 7/64th" diameter based on the 3/32" punch being sufficient, albiet slightly loose.

  11. Funny this thread would come up. I was thinking I'd like to get a full or super/extra-full choke for my M4 to compliment the mod choke it came with from the factory.

  12. What is the roll pin size? Is it the 1/16" or next size up. I used to be a machinist and can say that quality tools are required to do quality work. The last thing you would want to do is break off a pin punch in the receiver. However, spending $150 on punch sets to install a $150 (or $59) part appears excessive. I'd rather buy just the size I need for the job. I don't do too much mechanical work any more and would never use the other drive pin punch sizes.

IIRC, it is 5/32s I'd have to check which punch I used.
