  1. Not to beat a dead horse, but I shot my M2 all day Saturday in a dove field. Shot some skeet as well. I probably shot a flat of shells all together. I wanted to put this issue to rest for sure before I cleaned the gun up for the off-season. NO JAMS! I am positive at this point that the carrier latch and spring fixed my problem, which was the same as yours.

    Good luck.

  2. Never mind about the rounds....I went back and read your first post.

If the cleaning doesn't work, I would replace the carrier latch and spring. Benelli will mail you the parts. Make sure you tell them you need the latch, spring and new pin.

  3. This thread illustrates some of my M2 Feeding problems - very much resembling the two or maybe 3 guys with the same deal in the longer thread which Jed moved over to.

I don't know how I missed your pictures before, but your markings look exactly the same as mine. The shell on the carrier is also like mine.

How many rounds you have through it?

    What all have you replaced?

  4. Happy Jed found the key. I posted to the thread I had originally started on the topic (M2 Feeding Failure) to freshen it up. I have photo's in there illustrating the jam I had been experiencing. My M2 stayed in the safe through the latter part of season because of this problem. Now I'll call Benelli and see if they'll ship me Jed's parts! (they might know him by first name! LOL)

That's funny. I think we're on good terms now. I even emailed them everything thing I did to the gun so they could use the information in the future (if they so desired).

I would start with the carrier latch and spring first. It is amazing that such a cheap part fixed my problem. Very happy with gun now.....been testing it this week (last week of dove season) with no problems. Shot it today in about 25 deg weather and it fired everytime.

    Good luck. jed

  5. I hunt a pit blind 3 days week. I've had my SBEII for 2 seasons and yesterday a had 3 or 4 mis-fires. It happened with all different types of shells, new, old, BlackCloud and Winchester. I clean my gun after every hunt due to the amount of rain and snow we've had. Not to mention the dust and dirt of being underground. I was about to take apart the bolt/pin yesterday but hesitated to do so, as I can't find a schematic online..... Any help? Thanks.

I don't have SBEII, but I do have the M2. I think the bolt is the same. Your manual should give you pretty good instructions on how to take the bolt and firing pin apart. IF not, the Benelli website has manuals you can download.

If you've never cleaned the firing pin and spring, that may be your problem. Explain a little more what it's doing on the misfire.

  6. I got the 3 dram but is the 1 1/8 load referring to the shot or oz shot? I believe the load. Do I need to worry about the OZ SHot?

Both. Let me see if I remember this:

1 1/8 is the amount (wgt) of shot (pellets) in the shell. For example if you have 1 1/8 oz load in 7 1/2 shot you have approx. 388 pellets (BBs) in the shell. If you have 1 oz load in 7 1/2 you'll have approx. 344 pellets in the shell.

The dram, or better referred to as dram equivalent, is probably best described as velocity in feet per second (fps).

    Example: 3 1/4 dram = 1255 fps; 3 dram = 1200 fps.

With the Monte I don't think it will matter. You probably won't have a problem with any ammo. However, if you want to break-in with some heavier loads, a cheap decent break-in ammo, you might want to try the Remington HeavyDove load. They are 1255 (3 1/4 dram) and 1 1/8 oz. $5.99 a box at Academy Sports.

    Good luck, jed

  7. What shells should I run through first 3" mags?

Then after that say a couple of hundred.... what should I shoot skeet with 2 1/2 or 1 1/8 oz?

I'm getting a little confused when it comes to the shot oz. shot size and diam. I guess I would be ok to just shoot 3-dram, 1-1/8-oz for skeet?

I don't think there's a need to shoot 3" mags. I believe the Monte is better about the break in thing. Got a couple friends who got 2 for Christmas and they just started shooting 3 dram 1 1/8 loads and no problems.

So, I would start with at least 3 dram (Approx. 1250 fps) and 1 1/8 load. You should be fine. If it jams, then I would go up.

I don't know if it's true (I don't have one), but I have always heard that the Monte has a slightly smoother bolt and cycles better from new than the M2 or SBE. Maybe someone else has the accurate information.

  8. True authorized Benelli dealers have to buy X amount of inventory and with most guns Benelli sets a MAP (minimum advertised price) with parts it's a little different. With that being said the MAP by no means dictates what kind of a deal you can get either way.

I have seen a dealer price list and on most guns it's around a $150-275 profit margin.

Yep, that's I figured as well. A Benelli gun dealer told me the exact same thing.

    Thanks all who responded.

  9. Does anyone know the mark-up (profit margin) of Benelli firearms through a authorized Benelli dealer? Do all dealers get the same price from Benelli? I guess another way to ask, is how much profit does a dealer make when selling a Benelli firearm?

I will find out tomorrow, when I go to a sale, but I thought I'd ask to see how far off it would be. I would guess about $150????

    thanks, jed

  10. Nice, if nothing else you can say you know more about the inner workings of your gun than you did before. :p

You got that right. I can take this thing apart blind-folded.

I don't know what to do with myself now! Guess I'll figure out how to get the scratches off now :D.

    Thanks for your help.

  11. buy a beretta urika it never jams never never.....

Yeah, I like them too. My 390 is bullet proof. .........but I'm not giving up on the M2. Since I'm a gun cleaning freak, I like the Benelli system. The Berettas are a little more complicated to clean. But, thanks for the advice.

  12. I know what you mean, I had a gift card burning a hole in wallet to Cabela's and they had Benelli's on sale. Made since to pick up another SBE II LH. Good luck.

My only problem now (or mission) is how I'm going to slip off tomorrow and get it without my wife knowing about it.

I love the smell of a new gun on Sunday!

  13. I have an M2 Comfort, the recoil in not bad shooting 3" pheasant loads, if the price is right on the M2 American, you might be able to put a Sims or Hiviz pad on it to reduce the recoil more. I put a HiViz on a Citori and it made a world of difference.

Yeah, I have an M2 with comfort tech as well. I also have a limbsaver laying around that would probably fit the M2 American. I was just curious about the difference in case I decided to get another one.

  14. Has anyone compared the recoil difference between the M2 American (non-comfort tech) and the M2 with comfort tech stock? Academy Sports has a sale on the M2 American and I have a gift card! Curious about the difference in feel and recoil.

    thanks, jed

  15. Good job on getting the carrier latch replaced.

As far as your experiment, when I push the CDL the round gets thrown back nearly against the black plastic of the trigger group. It is stuck there and no amount of shaking it will free it. The bolt pulls back easily and the carrier lifts just fine when I let the bolt forward again.

Thanks......Mine must be normal now. I'll test today. Don't know what else it could be unless tolerance is out or chamber issue. Also, I'm going to PM you a link I found regarding a carrier issue.......not that it has anything to do with my problem....just thought you'd be interested. .... see what you think.

  16. Well, thanks to Remarkable, agm65ccip and a few others, I got the carrier latch and spring changed out. I know, I said I was sending it back, but I could not resist. The new one is in and I will test the new carrier latch tomorrow to see if it makes a difference.

Got a favor: can you guys run a little experiment for me:

Put a round in the magazine tube with the bolt forward. Now hit the shell release button and let the shell come back and land on the carrier/elevator. Tell me if the round is loose (shake the gun or turn it upside down) or if the round is wedged between the carrier latch and receiver wall (cannot shake it loose).

    thanks, jed

  17. Just curious if any knows what the M2 receivers are made of?

    Aluminum alloy, Stainless.....?

I would think they're made of something rust proof, correct?

    jed

  18. Why not continue your polishing approach and apply it to the carrier latch or at least the areas where the shell is sticking?

There's not doubt that some make of shells have slightly different shell part measurements: enough to cycle in some makes/models, but not so in others.

Good idea. I've got this carrier latch pin stuck now so I'm going to ask Benelli Monday what they'll do for me in regards to changing out the pin. If they'll change it out and check the tolerances, I may just let them handle it.

    Thanks....jed

  19. 1. The jammed round only occurs on the 3rd round. Unlike what I had been told by someone else on another board, the carrier latch is in a different position when a round is still in the magazine. When the magazine is empty (as with my jam), the carrier latch has more pressure in the rear section (toward the butt of the gun). When a round is still in the magazine, the pressure is equal because the carrier latch is holding a shell in the tube.

    JED,

I thought I told you this information before. Secondly, your gun is jamming because the bolt remains open if no shell is in the magazine. The Carrier Latch effectively handles this task. I also gave you very detailed instructions how to replace the Carrier Latch.

I am really wondering if you put the RECIEVER in a vise when removing your recoil spring tube and effectivle took the receiver out of tolerance. I have worked on over 500 SBE 1's 2's M1's, M2's, Montefeltros and have never experienced the problems you are encountering.

AGM 65 has given you some great information - his insights are far beyond the of most Benelli posts on this sight.

I think you neeed to send your gun back to Benelli and have a tolerance test on your receiver and bolt assembly.

Benelli sent the wrong parts in the beginning and I finally got the carrier latch last. It came in a few days ago. I tried to replace the carrier latch tonight and buggered up the pin a little while trying to get it out so I stopped. I got it back in so the gun would work. Apparently my punch opened up the hollow pin enough to stop the removal. Since I'm sending it back anyway, I don't think I need to mess with it anymore.

I think you're right about the tolerance issue. I am sending it back as soon as I can get them on the telephone to get a RA number. I did not put it in a vise for the recoil tube/spring. It had this problem before I ever touch the recoil spring. This has been a problem since day one.

Since it seems to be a tolerance issue of some type, I agree, it needs to go back to Benelli.

Thanks for you instructions on the other stuff....
