1. Is he still selling them through the gunbroker ads? It took me about a month to get this one, but it took a friend of mine 2. I was easily able to reach him on the phone and arrange a pick up and check status ( we live in the same city ).

Not sure about gunbroker. I reached out to kip a couple weeks ago and they got back to me right away. No complaints from me about carrier comp service. Just pointing out to potential buyers that if they are looking for a tube they should get this one you have for sale or they are in for a wait.

  2. Some Russian training incorporates rolls and sweeps. Sonny Puzikas is the most well known that I'm aware of. If you haven't seen that guy run a rifle it's very unorthodox as compared to western training, but it seems to work for him.

My understanding is that his philosophies draw on Russian Systema, which relies heavily on change of position and angle, as well as being extremely relaxed.

The guy in the original vid doing that random forward roll and firing into the air? He's just being a nincompoop.

Why would someone need to make this Hollywood roll over like that at @0:35?
  3. Hey Hookster,

    Thanks for the heads up.

You're right on time with this because it just went on sale. It was announced a while ago but wasn't available for purchase until very recently. 500 lumens is a lot. I have the x300 and it is very bright at 170. It is odd that the ultra isn't available from the surefire website. They must be filling the back orders first.

I'm waiting on buying one until I get a light mount for my m4.

The surefire hq is about 10 mins from my house. Maybe I should stop by? : )

  4. You must have money burning a hole in your pocket if you buy a 5.7 for a nightstand gun. However, the gun you shoot is the one you should buy, so if that's the one for you then you should buy it immediately.

In my (admittedly limited) armchair/classroom research I couldn't find / haven't heard a viable argument for frangible rounds for home defense. They disintegrate on steel plate or glass but they will penetrate drywall and insulation. Also, they sacrifice some penetration for the frangibility. In other words the 'advantages' of a frang round aren't relevant to you, and you still suffer from the disadvantages associated with any missed shot.

I know the marshals use them on aircraft but that's mission-specific. Also, those guys train a LOT. And they get a really good deal on their ammo. : )

    One man's opinion.

oh man stranger or benelliworks, how is that 5.7 compared to a glock all deck out by glockworx?

after this thread I have been looking at 5.7 and wow what a cool round specially for a hand gun and then you can carry 21 like nothing, lol too cool.

wife already bought the Wilson Combat this 5.7 will be for me. even though I read the recoil is great in the FN but grip to big for a small hand female.

how do you see the ammo hard to find outta stock alot or just cost alot but around? If I use it for night stand gun will I be able to find frag rounds that wont go threw every wall I have and kill my kids? GUN has reall got me I think I need it

thanks guys I am broke now gonna be more broke, lol

  5. Thanks Hookster.

Did Scott modify the original design to incorporate the sling mount? Or is it identical to previous?

Any word on when you will get yours delivered and post pictures? ;)

    cheers,

    -case-

For anyone interested in this item you can sign up for free shipping when they are in stock by sending Scott an email at the address on this page:

    Later,

    Hookster :)

  6. The 'extended' short rail you linked to is longer than the receiver, extends out over your barrel. It looks sh*t and, more significantly, I think it's a snag hazard. Not a fan. There must be some reason to use it but I don't know what it is.

If you want a rail that is the same length as the OEM then get the regular model.

As for 8 vs. 6, there aren't any hidden differences that I'm aware of. If you like the two extra shells then go for it. I think it gets a bit unwieldy with an 8 shell carrier and 7 in the tube but it's your gun so do whatever serves you. You've already got that forend and plastic grip on there so the extra weight might be negligible.

  7. Yeah you install the rail and then you can buy whatever side saddle unit you want. They make one that holds six shells, eight shells, and one that holds 4 shells hand has a little rail attachment so that you can put a light, like a surefire x300, on it.

You don't need any special part numbers. I ordered direct from them and here's what I got, for reference (copied straight out of their confirmation email from me - I looked it up):

1 x

6 Round Quick Detach Shell Holder (19606)

    $69.95

1 x

Quick Detach Standard Short Rail (25150-DE)

    $99.95

The direct links on their product page:

After you get it just make sure you remove the screws AND washers to do the installation. The washers are small and black on black so will miss them if you aren't careful. It's really easy to do. And I think they send some purple loc tite if you don't have any on hand. : )

Again, thanks to one and all. Case, do you know which rail I would get for my M4? That is, is their a specific part number?

Am I reading you correct...you install the rail, then the side saddle unit clips to the rail? I like the model you put the link for and can also see advantages (mainly cost) to the Mesa unit. Are there any particular models of M4 I need to know about before getting a rail/side saddle? All I know is "M4" but wanted to be sure there there wasn't some additional model number or configuration I'd need to know about before ordering. All I knew was I asked for an M4, got it went to the range and fell in love with it the first shot out of the pipe.

  8. Thanks Hookster. I will probably flip mine around before I hit the range again and see what's what after I do some shooting. On review I'm not super thrilled with the way the two accessories are interacting but until I do some live fire practice I don't know. I haven't shot the gun yet with the sight.

@Creeper - I know what you mean! I have a backup tube of the blue at all times because those little tubes either dry out or leak or both. And that stuff isn't cheap either. I have definitely pressed the blue into service when I was tired of stuff rattling loose. Just trying to give the OP a heads up because he said he wasn't mechanically inclined. : )

    Hi Case!

Yeah IIRC StrangerDanger used to have his LaRue w/T1 mounted with the lever on the right for the reason you stated on one of his earlier configurations.

    Later,

    Hookster :)

  9. I have the mod3 system from Sidearmor on my M4. The 6 round sidesaddle unit is detachable.

    http://www.sidearmor.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=46_48&products_id=116

It was expensive but I liked the quick detach part because it enables quick access to the trigger pin for cleaning. The rail and the side saddle were around $170 together. If you click through the link you can view the ball bearing retention system that SideArmor uses to hold the shells.

Installation is a breeze. Remove 5 screws and washers, re-install 5 screws. If you can turn a screw, you can do it. It's easier than breaking down the gun for cleaning. I've been very happy with the parts. The sidesaddle has absolutely zero play once it is attached. No rattle or movement.

Downside: the side saddle cannot be installed/removed if you have an optic mounted on LaRue QD mount levers on the same side. You must remove the optic or run your QD lever on the right side of the gun. (I mounted mine with lever on the left to keep it out of the way of the ejection port.) Not sure if it plays well with other optics or mount systems.

I use my shotgun for home defense and prefer to have a few extra rounds on the gun instead of the sling, but that's me.

Creeper sounds like he does his own smithing so the following comment is aimed at those that may be new to wrenching on small parts: blue loc-tite (242) is recommended for screws at least 1/4" in diameter. If you're using it on a small screw you might want to try purple loc-tite (222MS) first and if you're still having issues then use blue. One man's opinion.

Edited to add photo of sidearmor saddle with optic mounted. DSC01505.JPG

  10. Same issue here: I had hoped that my girl would be able to shoot the m4 too but it's too heavy for her to wield. The recoil is mild with 2 3/4" #1 buck loads but she can't keep the gun on target. Too heavy. *sigh*

So I'm in a similar situation with the pistol, trying to find something that is manageable for her but will also enable her to hold the fort down when I'm away. And she's not a fan of range time either. Trying to find something she can get comfortable with.

My main goal is someday have her shoot my M4 but I just doubt it she tiny and scared of it.

  11. Agree with Unobtanium: I got the muted because I was tired of waiting for the PvD (black) finish. But after installing the muted one it looks good. It is fairly close in hue to the mag tube and barrel, a nice muted gray color. I think it looks the business.

The PvD knob should be available in the next couple weeks, maybe less. I check every day. Last time they sold out in one day so if you want one get the muted while it's available. I am sure they are selling fast.

  12. I thought she had a problem cycling the slide?

That Wilson Combat is a sweet, sweet 1911 but from what I understand you're giving someone that doesn't like range time a SAO weapon so she'll have to be very comfortable working the slide and the hammer if she wants to clear it on her own. You know your girl best but I'd get an auto with a decocking lever if I were shopping for someone that didn't like to practice. One man's opinion.

On the other hand, that CQB is niiiiiice.

Ok made up my mind. going with Wilson combat compact CQB.

killing two birds with one stone. I always wanted a "cool" 1911 and she shoots them alot better than my plastic guns so its a win win.

now if Benelli ever made a M4 in 20 gauge that might be the way to go for her

  13. I don't have the standard stock but I use this sling, which would fit on the standard stock if you trimmed the stock-end nylon slightly:

    Ares Armor link: http://www.aresarmor.com/install/ecom-prodshow/aahuskey2pt.html

No pics because I'm at work.

I avoided the slings with shell holders because I think the bandolier sling itself kind of sucks compared to an adjustable model (one man's opinion). The adjustable 2-point sling is great for carrying and shooting. I keep my bandoliers separate. That way I can give them to someone else if necessary.

  14. That picture is awesome.

It looks like all the shooters are shooting left handed? Are they practicing opposite hand shooting?

Also, thanks for the tips. I will practice this technique. I am one of the 'pull it tight to the shoulder' users and I haven't been able to get a second and third follow-up round down range as quickly as I would like. This should help.

  15. Got mine at Brownells. Their price was competitive.

As for mounting, mine rattled loose initially because I didn't tighten it enough. After that I used blue loctite (not purple, not red) made sure it was a bit tighter and no issues. You could use purple loctite if you were concerned about removing the screw later but I don't think it's necessary.

I like the reduced LOP and the recoil pad. It's fast and very easy on your shoulder.

  16. I would add a minor comment in re: concept.

Your M4 has some loading options that enable you to swap out or unload rounds without feeding from the mag tube.

It may help if you imagine these options in terms of intent (it helped me - I got my M4 and my first thought was, what the heck is this button for and why does it do that? Why won't the mag gate move?).

Imagine you have a slug loaded in the chamber and buckshot in the mag tube. How would you load the buckshot from the tube without firing? Click the cartridge drop lever, then cycle the weapon manually with the charging handle.

If you practice this with dummy rounds it will become very familiar. Also you will get used to manually unloading the shotgun by using the Cartridge Drop lever. The alternative is to push the mag gate back with your finger and free the rounds from the tube. This actually works very well with practice but it's kind of awkward if you're used to pump guns.

    Hope that helps.
