  1. So before I start...does any one have an SG class wisdom to share? I may try shotgun 2 next year when its offered...

So I just got back from a defensive shotgun class here in Phoenix. Still trying to absorb it all. It was essentially beginner shotgun with a home defense focus. We did several drills:

    1. Pattern spread at different distances,

    2. 4 shots on target center mass high ready

    3. 4 shots on target center mass low ready

    4. 4 shots on target center mass tactical ready

    5. 7 shots (fully loaded) on target center mass

    6. 12 shots on target center mass low ready(reload required)

    7. 1 shot on target center mass 2 on neighbors target center mass then one on your target center mass,

    8. 2 buckshot on body 2 slugs to head

    9. continuous fire and reloading on moving target.

I think those were all the drills in this 3-hour class.

    Points I took home:

One of the instructors advised me to not rotate the gun 90 degrees counter clockwise to drop a shell in the chamber-hit bolt release then rotate the opposite way to load like the Magpul guys. He advised me to load underneath which I have never practiced as you move in the same direction to load the chamber and the magazine. I'm going to try it and see if it works for me.

Also he wasn't a fan of the push-pull method and advised I pull back with the grip and pull back with the fore grip as well.

Things I noticed about my gun:

I had one FTE on the last shell in the gun on one of the drills. The bolt had locked back and I cleared it by rolling it out. I lubed it really well prior to the class as I did not want a malfunction. It is a newer gun with like 200 shots through. I was shooting Estate 2 3/4 00 buck from walmart (its what I had).

I have a forward hand stop see below...

    m4.9.jpg

I thought I would use it to push-pull and stay on target. I found that it works fairly well...I straight arm my support arm with thumb forward the 1st finger provides pressure on the stop. When I do it correctly I can keep the muzzle down well. I don't experience much pain if I keep the round count below 15...after the class and 75 shells my first finger is pounded..lol likely there will be some bruising tomorrow. This may only work with gloves and even then I'm skeptical. Ill probably try to reverse the hand-stop. After that I may go back to the old fore grip and try Side Armor's offerings.

  2. His temperament was giving me anxiety through the whole vid. It seemed the crew were even scared by his antics. Interesting how his explanation in english seemed reasonable and balanced compared to his previous behavior.

  3. Has anyone changed the mag tube themselves with the heat gun? I dont wanna mess up a 1600 dollar shot gun.

I changed mine with the heat gun method after reading this thread:

    http://forums.benelliusa.com/showthread.php/20884-Lazy-Man-s-Method-of-Removing-a-Benelli-M4-OEM-Magazine-Tube

It took longer than I thought.... but I kept changing the angle in an overabundance of caution so as not to heat the receiver. I knew I was getting close when the red loctite started to flake away. I used a rubber strap wrench which unfortunately left some marks on the original tube. I initially did not wait long enough and tried to strong arm it and the wrench slowly slipped.

And the Freedom fighter tacticle site said to tead the 922r mote then once but it seemed pretty cut and dry to me

FFT probably gets a ton of questions due to the nature of their inventory. Whats cool is after you ask a question they spend all day answering over and ever....at the end of your conversation they will say "Call us again anytime if you have any more questions."

  4. It looks like a Royal Arms brake and it came with the modified Benelli choke. It does not have the US stamp on it so I suspect it is not Kip's.

My question is is it steel or aluminum? Does anyone have an aluminum or steel brake they could weigh?

    :D

  5. Here is my extended choke.

It looks similar to yours. Mine has Benelli markings that are wearing off. Could your makings have worn?

On a separate note here is my brake that I was extremely lucky to find. The seller had no info on it.

  6. I'm curious to hear how the titanium works too. I never found titanium to be very smooth or slick to the touch. My concern would be the surface interfering with the shells as they're ejected from the magazine tube.

    Good point.

I've got a bunch of knives with Ti frame locks and some are pretty smooth and others are granular.

If the raw plate is too gummy/granular...I bet it can be polished to a nice smooth surface with a scotch brite wheel and then a buffing wheel.

My guess is the finished product will be moonless and the pattern is just a tracing.;)

  7. Good points. I did not notice a loose retention cap when I broke it down after the range. I will say I am not worried about the FTE's. There have been many posts related to a break in period for new M4's. I dont think I am halfway through it yet. Additionally the two FTE's were within 4 shots of each other from the same box..... so I would like/(hope) to think it was the ammo and possibly the break in period.

On a brighter note I found 3 boxes of 25 Estate 00 buck at walmart on the bare ammo shelf today.

  8. Not to get off topic but...

lol not a huge knife...Its a Kingdom Armory Samaritan 3.75 inch cutting edge. I'm kinda a knife enthusiast so I enjoyed the pics from LRM. Its just an everyday carry folder with an extremely useful shape.

In the vid the 2nd shell I loaded failed to extract after the shot. I thought the bolt was attempting to close on the spent shell pinning it....but it was probably locked back as it was the last shell. I didn't want to stick a finger in there and have the bolt close and chop my finger off so i extracted with my folder. It was an irrational fear as the bolt was locked...but I just went with the first instinct.

  9. This was my first time out with my brand new M4. I shot the first 30-40 shells here. Somewhere in the last ten there were two FTE's. I was behind the gun for one my buddy was behind the other. Both of the shells that were FTE's were from the same box as we were handing off every couple of shots. The offending ammo was Tap Light Magnum 00 Buck. I was also shooting PDX rifled slugs whichwere flawless...and expensive!...:p

Oh yeah...this was my first time ever shooting a shotgun...I was a little excitable.
