  1. I went with the mesa urbino w cheek riser and limbsaver pad. No need to change the recoil tube. Don't over tighten the bolt that attaches the stock to the end of the recoil tube. My 1014 came with the non-collapsing "skeleton stock" which I am hanging on to for eventual swap of the recoil tube.

The talcum powder acts as a lubricant on the polymers which minimizes the squeeze. We use it on leather holsters that sound like the old floor boards of an old west saloon. You don't need much.

Talc also works well on rubberized components that may become sticky as they age. In my case, radio knobs on the old porsche.

  3. Milspec, I have a Mesa Ubino PG fixed stock on my 1014. Length of pull is perfect and it has a cheek riser I dialed in for my optic. Recently switched to the limbsaver pad.The shape of the Urbino PG is different than the stock grip. No complaints.

  4. Since the gun will see regular use, I'd suggest taping off the area around the "gap" in the camo pattern (leaving only the gap exposed) and apply a quick shot of spray paint. I've seen camo colors w flat sheen at the hardware store. Or brush on some model paint from the hobby store. Blend some paints to match the straw color?? Better yet if you know someone who has an airbrush, I bet they would be glad to help you in trade for your appreciation of their craft and a beer or two.....

Well I went to Bass Pro and picked up that tiny Wheeler kit and after just one use it was obvious how shitty it is.
Secretly hoped I could get away without spending QUITE as much as that PB Swiss set, but it looks to be unavoidable. Although any day getting new tools isn't a bad day.

Yeah, I had similar experience w Wheeler kit punches recently so this thread is timely.

  6. Hey Fellas,

It's Friday before a long weekend, so I suspect the forum will have a lot of visits......

I have a M1014 and thinking about having the bbl threaded for choke after seeing a couple posts by SD about service offered by Rose Action Sports. Note, when I purchased my M1014, it was advertised as M4 and I had no idea of the difference at the time. I have only a couple hundred rounds fired but it has happily consumed the various loads from light target to buck to slugs without a single hiccup - so why bother?

    Questions:

For you M4 owners, do you change the choke or just run what the gun came with? If you do change it, what's your favorite and why (dedicating the M4 for a specific range distance/load? Setting up the M4 for competition? ...etc)?

For you M1014 owners who have threaded your bbl, what's your go-to choke and why?

Keeping it stock, should I avoid any particular load ....3" mag slug for example?

Any and all comments/suggestions are appreciated.

    Happy Labor Day weekend!

Anyone use regular motor oil as lubricant? I keep seeing this mentioned on other forums. Never tried it myself because I still have plenty of my regular stuff (Break Free). But when I run out imma going to give it a shot. No pun intended?

A friend of mine has been motor oil as general lube on his ARs for years.
