  1. Remarkable, 1. This morning, I just realized my son has a new 725 Sporting (left hand version) here at the house, and it does have the Hi Viz sight you described. Thanks for the advice, I'll be picking one up this week at Bass Pro Shop. 2. What is your reasoning for replacing my existing barrel stop ring? 3. I agree with you on the lack of shotgun pattering standards. Before Beretta updated their website a couple years ago, they described their way of testing for POI prior to sending a gun in for warranty work. The Beretta procedure was performed at 30 yards, using a 6" bullseye, and placing the bead inside the circumference of the bull. A horizontal line is drawn through the center of the bull to determine POI percentages. I feel the Beretta method makes the most sense. I've been shooting Browning Citori Lightnings (12, 20, 410) for skeet, trap, dog training, and upland hunting for the last 36 years, and never had the need to test my guns for POI. It wasn't until my kids got into waterfowl hunting that I purchase my SBE3, and that fall took it dove hunting, and was barely able to bag a dove. I immediately went home and tested the POI for the SBE3, from that day forward I have become a student of shotgun POA/POI and gun fit. * Note, a few years ago I went from 270 to 210 pounds and noticed a significant change in my sight picture for most of the guns I own. Thanks again for feedback.
  2. Remarkable, thanks again for your feedback. 1. I will take your advice on the Hi Viz Comp Sight, that looks like a good solution. 2. The photo of the barrel stop/lug gap is of my gun after Benelli repaired it. I was concerned with the gap when I noticed it, contacted Benelli, and they had me ship the gun back for inspection. They sent it back in the same state with a test pattern ,and said it was properly adjusted. I'm OK with the gap, but my engineering mind questions the function of the stop ring if its not making contact with the barrel. I must note, following the barrel replacement and adjustment of the barrel stop ring, the POI was better from L-R and lowered some. Please don't insult me by saying this photo is not of the gun I have. 3. I have 2 test patterns for this gun from the Benelli repair shop, and the folks performing the pattern test wrote the letters "POA" on the target and circled them, not me, I only drew the horizontal line through the target. If you look at how Browning conducts POI tests, they use a 6 o'clock hold on a 6" bull also, using the top of the bead as the POA. I was just wondering how Benelli conducted their POI testing. As a matter of fact, I was planning to perform a POI test with this gun using the Browning method to see the results. See Browning POI testing procedure link: https://www.browning.com/support/faq/shotgun-poi.html?srsltid=AfmBOopnPKogNlMUfViASqNMAa_KXWqSOMJZItIohP4v5c0MEHjuq4aI Now that I'm older my back really appreciates light weight well balanced 12ga shotguns, and that's why I inquired about the Montefeltro. Do you think the Ethos would be a good fit for me? Thanks again for your help.
  3. Remarkable, I appreciate your feedback, please clarify the following: 1. Where can I obtain another front sight like the one that came with the replacement barrel from Benelli? The one I have is cracked. 2. What is the purpose of the barrel stop ring if it isn't making contact with the barrel lug. Is it for vertical support of the barrel? 3. When the Benelli gun shop performs the point of impact testing, where is the front sight with respect to the POA indicated on the test target? Is the top or middle of the front sight aligned with the POA indicated on the target? Thanks
  4. Attached is the new barrel provided by Benelli, which has a larger sight than the original, which seems like an attempt to lower the point of aim, thus lower the point of impact. Note, I contacted Benelli to purchase a replacement sight for this new barrel and they said this sight was unavailable, and that they could not understand how this barrel came with this sight in the first place. The sight they ended up sending would not fit my barrel, must be for a smaller gauge barrel. The second photo is of the gun repair Benelli made by moving the magazine tube barrel stop ring so that it is no longer making contact with the barrel lug. What is the purpose of the barrel stop ring if it no longer is making contact with the barrel? On the Benelli test target provided after their repairs, they noted the "POA" being a 6 o'clock hold on the black bull. I drew a line through the "POA" and counted the pellets, which resulted in a 80/20 pattern. My plan is to trade this gun on some other light weight 12ga auto that I can use for my upland hunting. I like the Montefeltro but am gun-shy to make another Benelli purchase. , which
  5. What point of impact should I expect with the new model Montefeltro 12ga, looking perfectly down a flat rib? I have a SBE3 that was re-barreled and had the barrel lug stop ring adjusted, and it still shoots 80/20 based on the test target supplied by Benelli. Thanks
  6. How do I determine the manufacture date of my SBE3 based on the serial number? Thanks
  7. Does the Vinci shoot high like the SBEs do?

    My failed sbe2

Buy the A400, my son has had the A400 Extreme for 4 years and it has functioned flawlessly, and he hunts 3-5 days per week and rarely cleans his gun. I sold him my A400 Lite and bought a SBE3, what a HUGE MISTAKE!!!!! My new SBE3 shoots high 80/20 and left of center, looking straight down a flat rib. Benelli basically told me to pound sand, the gun is designed to shoot high. It's currently at the Benelli repair shop for the second time to inspect their previous repair job, which appears to be a safety concern.
  10. I've got the same problem with my new 2021 SBE3 shooting high 80/20 and left. Sent it to Benelli and they adjusted the barrel stop ring in attempt to correct the POI, which didn't improve. Now the gun is back at Benelli because my barrel lug has a .015" gap between it and the barrel stop ring, following their original repair. I sent an email to Benelli's Carter Miller explaining my concern with their botched repair and it fell of deaf ears. Now I have a gun that was potentially damaged because of being fired with the barrel stop ring not being in contact with the barrel lug. I never expected this kind of poor quality and unprofessional service from Benelli. Do not buy a SBE3 unless you pattern it first! Also, Benelli's canned response that European guns shoot high while looking down a flat rib is false. I've been calling Benelli dealers every day to share my story and they all agree that when looking down a flat rib the gun should pattern close to 50/50. One can raise the stock if they choose to raise the POI of the gun. Now I'm waiting to get my SBE3 back from Benelli's repair shop, so to ensure that it is still safe to shoot prior to trading it in and taking a huge loss on this $1500 boat anchor.
  11. I'm in the same situation. My sons and I have had Berettas and Brownings for long time, and this European high shooting gun excuse doesn't hold water.
  12. Contact Carter Miller at Benelli and see what his response is to your situation. Let us know what he has to say. [email protected]
  13. I sent my SBE3 back to Benelli last week to have them inspect their previous POI repair, where the barrel stop ring is not even touching the barrel lug. I also sent an email to one of the executives at Benelli requesting a full refund. My next step is to share my story on every upland bird hunting, waterfowl hunting, sporting clays, skeet and trap shooting forum that I can find. I figure Tom Gresham's Gun Talk radio show will be interested in my story, which I can share over the 270 stations that broadcast his show. I'm not eating the cost of this defective and potentially unsafe gun.
  14. Looks like another SBE3 Point Of Impact Complaint. The Rob Roberts solution is to loosen up your barrel nut! See the following: My new SBE 3 is having the obvious same issues as previously discussed in this thread. So, I called Rob Roberts shop and spoke with a guy there and he recommended not only trying different shims, but to slightly loosed the cap on top of the magazine tube by 2 or 3 clicks. I gave this a try and it seemed to help some; I went from an 80/20 to roughly a 70/30. Just curious, has anyone else here tried this with better or worse results? Edited 19 hours ago by GregP
  15. Still haven't received my replacement sight from Benelli, I guess they cannot find one that isn't off center as they indicated to me on the phone a few weeks ago.
  16. I'm getting the feeling there is a mechanical/harmonic issue with the barrels on these guns. Based on what Rob Robert's told you, the barrel lug making contact with the barrel stop ring is the problem, and unscrewing the barrel lock nut relieves the force on the barrel stop ring. This is probably why Benelli adjusted my barrel stop ring to where it didn't contact (.015" gap) the barrel lug! I'm seriously concerned about the safety of these guns.
  17. See the following article which describes the point of impact problem Benelli has with their SBE3 shotguns. https://randywakeman.com/TheDesignDefectoftheBenelliSuperBlackEagle3.htm
  18. The following in an interesting article that discusses the SBE3 point of impact problem. https://randywakeman.com/TheDesignDefectoftheBenelliSuperBlackEagle3.htm
  19. The gun shoots high (80/20), which is the biggest problem, and to the left (2" at 21 yards & just under 4" at 40 yards). Benelli performed a repair to lower the point of impact, which appears to have left the gun in an unsafe condition, so now the gun is heading back to Benelli for inspection/repair.
  20. Right know I'm stuck with a gun that shoots 80/20 and 4" to the left looking straight down the barrel with the "D" shims installed. Benelli attempted to adjust the POI without any success. I guess I'm reaching at this point.
  21. I've got the same problem with my brand new SBE3 bolt not closing on an empty chamber. Try pushing down on the carrier with your other hand and it will get past the bind in the action. Watch that you don't get your finger caught in the action. I'm guessing this is a result of non-conforming parts in Benelli's manufacturing facility.
  22. This gun is now on it's way back to Benelli, per their request, to inspect and/or correct their previous repair. I'm now concerned that I may have damaged this gun while using it in this condition. More to come.
  23. One would think that the original sights for this $1,500 gun would be of better quality, and I would not be required to purchase replacement sights from the Benelli Performance Shop to rectify this situation. The Benelli website states: "Benelli's renowned reliability, exceptional quality and forward-thinking innovation set us apart. Every firearm we make demonstrates a commitment to superior technology and craftsmanship that has propelled us to the forefront of the shooting industry."
  24. Has anyone noticed their SBE front bead is off center? I reached out to Benelli for a replacement bead and they said that they could not guarantee that I would get one that wasn't off center again. I'm wondering if this is the root cause to my gun shooting 2" to the left at 21 yards.
