hookedonquack12 Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 I was wondering, if it would harm my barrel if I powder coated it. Taking into consideration that the ends will be plugged and masked. Mainly concerned about it being in the oven at 405deg for 20 min. I'm no pro when it comes to specs on guns so I appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance Rob Quinn Quote
tucker301 Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 I wouldn't expose it that much heat. Why not just use something made for guns like Duracoat? Quote
hookedonquack12 Posted November 3, 2008 Author Posted November 3, 2008 It just needs to be refinished and I work in power coating so I was curious. Where would I find something like duracoat? Thank you for your response as well. Quote

warped Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 That temp isn't going to hurt anything. The steel will need to be heated to well over 1600F for 30 minutes to lose it's temper. 405F isn't even hot That being said, just parkerize it first, it makes a great base for a coating. Quote
Nikolai552 Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 That Duracoat caught my eye. Let's say i don't have the right equipment to apply it. Would local gunshops do it? Quote
CAPT29 Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 If you want Duracoat, get a pro to do it. Your gun will look good and you will realize all the benefits of the coating. Quote
tucker301 Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Not all gunsmiths do Duracoat and other finishes. The general consensus is that Walt Birdsong does the best work available. W E Birdsong & Associates 1435 Monterey Road Florence, MS 39073 (601) 939-7448 Others are available as well. http://www.ccrrefinishing.com http://www.mrarms.com Quote
