That's what quick release is for ... IMO. If your optic fails you in the heat of the epic megabattle you undoubtedly are destined to use your m4 in, rip that **** off and go back to using irons and screaming obscenities. If you're using shot, you might not even have to worry about it. Slugs sure, but with sporting shot loads (and maybe even 00 if you've got a cylinder or IC choke) I think the spread will pretty much allow you to point instinctively. Half the time I shoot my m4 I do it without really lining up or looking at the irons.
