CWP147
Let's start off by saying I have a SBE2 and I just can't praise it enough, absolutely love it. With that aside, I am looking for a pump, well Benelli offers two. The only thing thats really holding me back from buying it is I don't know how it comes apart. That's one thing I really like about my SBE2 is how easily it comes apart to clean and within a few seconds I can have it completely apart and cleaned. How exactly does the Nova/SuperNova break down? Would it be a hassle to tear it down every time I use it and clean it? Or do you not mind? Thanks for reading, hope to get a few responses! Hookster
Hi CWP and welcome to the forum! I don't have a Nova or Supernova but you could check out the manual for the breakdown instructions. It's available to download as a pdf here: http://www.benelliusa.com/downloads/manuals.php take care, Hookster
JNewell
It couldn't be much easier. Remove the barrel. Use the tip of the mag cap to press out the trigger group pins and remove the trigger assembly. Reach in and remove the bolt. Slide the forend off. That's from memory but I'm pretty sure that's it and that it is in the right order. It is very simple to strip these guns down for thorough cleaning.
CWP147
Thank you both very much, especially for the quick response! It sounded complicated but after looking at that manual it really is pretty simple. Theres two things that concern me, however. The 2 pins holding the trigger, how difficult are they to get out? Do they become loose after time or after so many times of removing them? Also, the end cap used to take the pins out, could it scratch the receiver if it happened to slip off the pins? Or is it not made or metal like I am assuming? Thanks again for the help and warm welcome!
JNewell
Never owned a Remington, Winchester or Mossberg, eh? They all use similar arrangements with pins...none of them provide a tool... The pins are totally secure and will not become loose over time. The pin or teat on the end of the mag cap is polymer, I believe, and it fits the pins like a charm. Put it on, push, then use the little lip on the inside to pull it out from the other side. No one else I know of provides a tool on the gun to remove pins - Benelli is way out front on this. I don't remember what the SN receiver is on the outside. The Nova is polymer-clad (think Glock). It shouldn't slip, but if you goof and the pin does, it might leave some slightly brighter mark on the receiver, but I've slipped a few times with mine and nothing shows at all. CWP147
I haven't used a Winchester or a Mossberg, no. I have used a Remington 870 though. But it was not mine and I only took it apart once so I'm no pump expert. I didn't know about the long term affects of taking the pins out over and over. Anyways, like you said, none of them come with a tool, and I goofed when taking the 870 apart and missed with the punch... not going to say what happened there... use your imagination lol That's why I was interested with the end cap so much, it threw me for a loop. JNewell
I hope that didn't come across as busting your chops - it was meant with a smile. The Nova is just about the easiest, quickest, most trouble-free shotgun to field-strip I've ever owned or seen. You'll have no problems or worries. CWP147
No worries I took it with the best intentions
JNewell
That's perfect. Ya know, removing the bolt is so easy it took me a few tries to figure it out. Much easier than a Winbergington.
gdiazdetuesta
If you have a pistol grip stock you will have to loosen or remove the stock to get the trigger group out.
