I have a friend who I shoot sporting clays with and we both shoot a Supersport. Before he shoots his first shot he will depress the cartridge drop button depositing the next round in the space below the bolt. Is there any advantage in doing this or is it not a good idea?

Doesn't make any difference either way.

 

Agreed, I think it's like when people tap the top of their soda cans before opening them...doesn't do anything for or against you, just a habit.
