M1 Rattle

8 Shot M1 Super 90

Recommended Posts

I cleaned my M1 after opening day of duck season a few days ago and decided to pull the bolt assembly apart. After wiping off and spraying in a fairly generous amount of remoil I re-assembled it and now with the bolt in the captured open position it sounds like the inertia spring is rattling. I pulled it apart and double checked myself and according to the pictures in my owners manual i have everything installed correctly. I just dont remember this sound from before, and ive had the gun since it was new almost 10 years ago, so I dont remember if it was like that when it was new. Any ideas? Could it be the fact that the gunk is gone out of it allowing it to make a little more noise than usual? This is the first time its ever been pulled apart.

the same thing happened to me this year after 15 years of faithful service. i too never noticed the sound then when i decided to take the bolt apart and thoroughly clean the clinking sound started. i checked here and found the same thing you found...normal.

but for the life of me in never heard that clinking even when new.
