Replacing Benelli M4 Recoil Spring

RE:  Benelli M4

In working to upgrade the recoil spring in the recoil assembly tube in the stock, I was able to successfully rotate the stock to remove it.  I had removed the trigger assembly to allow rotation of the stock.

I removed the circlip which retains the plug and recoil spring in the recoil spring tube.

However, I have been unable to remove the ‘plug’ which appears to be screwed in.  There is a hollow area in the center of the metal plug with threads but presume they turn in the same direction as the plug might.  (Presuming the plug is threaded in the tube for retention).  There are also two indents on opposite ends of the visible surface of the plug.

Was hoping someone might have some information on how to remove this plug so that I may replace the recoil spring.

Thanks in advance.

Frank
