M2 slug gun rear sight removal

Can someone tell me how to completely remove the rear sight from my M2 rifled barrel? I installed a leupold slam scope and it's so close to the rear sight base I can't get the lens cap on. Is it silver soldered to the barrel?

The sight is soldered on and will take A LOT of heat to remove.

I have cut/ground off one of those sights before. Obviously this leaves a bare spot on the metal that will want some type of finish applied.

Have you considered using a slightly taller mount? I prefer to use QD mounts so that the front & rear sights can be used if desired.
