SERPICO Posted May 28, 2025 Posted May 28, 2025 (edited) I'm in the process of selecting a light for my Benelli M4. Looking for recommendations for either the Surefire M640DF Pro; Surefire M640DFT Turbo Pro; or the Streamlight ProTac Rail HL-X. I appreciate any advice/recommendations you can give me. John Doe Posted May 28, 2025 Posted May 28, 2025 I run the Surefire Turbo with a Unity Axon SL switch and love it. I would say if you are getting a Surefire just get the Turbo but the Streamlights are great too. If you are going to put a switch on it I would say go Surefire but if it is just going to be a stand alone light then the Streamlight will work great. Hope this helps. 🙂 Quote
SERPICO Posted May 29, 2025 Author Posted May 29, 2025 @John Doe Thanks for the information. I bought one of the Streamlights a while back, but I never put it on because I like the Surefires better. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to run a switch on it or not. What makes you like the Turbo over the non-turbo? Quote

What makes you like the Turbo over the non-turbo? The throw. I have a few different Surefires both Turbo and not and depending on the application and what you are using them for. If strictly for home defense then the scout light will be just fine. I spend a lot of time in the woods and mountains and having the ability to see a little further is nice with the turbo. Everyone has different reasons and applicatons. It would depend on what you are doing. Quote
SERPICO Posted May 29, 2025 Author Posted May 29, 2025 @John Doe I'm mainly using mine for home defense, but having the longer throw when outside would be nice. I'm thinking the Turbo is the one to get, as it gives you the best of both worlds. The lumens on the turbo are 700 compared to 1,500 on the non-turbo Scout, but 1,500 lumens inside a home at night is a lot of light and may be a little too much. There is so much research that goes into every accessory. Thanks again for your input. 1 Quote

So it seems like it does not light up as much around you. I can try to post some pictures for you to show difference. But where I live the sun doesnt set until about 2330 so I will see what I can do but there are a bunch of videos on Youtube that shows this as well. Hope this info helps and if you have anymore questions please feel free to ask. Quote
SERPICO Posted May 30, 2025 Author Posted May 30, 2025 @John Doe Interesting. I better do a little more research on Youtube. You gave me a lot of great info and I appreciate it, but let me ask you one last question. Is there enough spill on the turbo for use as a home defense weapon, or would you definitely go with the non-turbo for home defense? I was thinking the turbo would be the best of both worlds, but maybe not? Quote
John Doe Posted May 30, 2025 Posted May 30, 2025 I mean it will work for sure for hd no problem. It does not light up the room as much as the non turbo, but it will work. I have the non turbo for my home defense and have the turbos on everything else. So for my hd rifle and pistol I have the non turbo and on my carry pistol and shotgun I have the Turbo. I also carry the EDC1 DFT for everyday carry. It is the turbo handheld version. But my bedside handheld flashlight is the Nitecore SRT7i which is a BEAST of a light and basically lights up every corner of my house when on full power and is built like a tank. Trying to figure out the right light for you can be trial and error. I have a ton of flashlights that I have carried and mounted on weapons and take hunting and camping and carry for edc. Some work great for what I want and some not so good. Not that they are not good flashlights for other purposes, but did not fit exactly what I wanted. If you plan on using your flashlight for dual purpose then the turbo will work fine. I have multiple flashlights for multiple reasons. In the winter up here we have very little sun and spend most of our time in the dark, so flashlights are a big deal for me. Do not hesitate to ask me any other questions you may have. Hope this helps. Quote
