It's looking like I'll be working at Camp Pendleton in San Diego starting in late January or Febuary. What's the duck season down there? Still open then or not? If so, any decent hunting in that area?

Closes Jan 29th or whatever the last Sunday in January is.

 

There are some great ponds & marshes on bases, check with them.

 

Otherwise, most guys hunt the SoCal refuges.

 

The vast majority of the hunting is in the Sacramento Valley.

I've never hunted down south but the duck hunting is going well in the Sac valley. My brother in law hunts dove somewhere near the CA/Arizona border and limits out in 30 minutes. They camp out and spend two days down there. Wish I had more info. for you. I would check out the refuges as Mudhen suggested. Good luck.
