sdkidaho
Cool guide - thanks. Also, if you want another good resource for actual photos you can look here. An online encyclopedia. I just happened to use it the other day to grab photos of all the ducks we have in our local regs so that I could start to learn to identify them better. They had pics of all the ones I checked on. tucker301
I checked the Wikipedia link, and I don't think we have any of these ducks around here

tucker301
You know that old saying, "You are what you eat"? It applies to coots too. Quoting Wikipedia - "These birds can dive for food but can also forage on land. They are omnivores, eating plant material, insects, fish, and other aquatic animals. Adults mostly consume "pond scum"."
sdkidaho
Yeah, that's what I thought. Figures that the ones with the highest limit taste the worst. Ah well...
tucker301
We watch them swim within feet of us and ignore them. They're usually so bunched up that you could get half that limit with one or two shots.
sdkidaho
So, which ones taste the best then?
tucker301
Greenwing Teal are my personal favorites.
Remy
Wood ducks are tasty!
sprigsss
sdkidaho, they are excellent eating. The legs are full of small tendons that get hard when cooked and are much like fish ribs. The breasts are as good as any duck and the gizzards are huge.
