I'm considering picking up an M1 20 ga as a backup and optional gun for close work over decoys.

I would appreciate anyone's experience with this gun for waterfowl. I borrowed a friends last year and while we were talking a goose came passing within 35 yards. It hit the water dead with one shot (I know, a lucky shot). I was so impressed with the guns weight that I am really thinking this might be a viable waterfowl gun if you pick your shots.

Thanks guys,

I know a couple of guys who use their 20's for duck hunting, shooting 3" magumns should do the trick fo you. You might have to be a little picky about your shots but birds over decoys shouldnt be a problem.

My brother and I used 20 gauges for the first year we went waterfowling. Shot lots of ducks and geese with them. We used them for ducks 40 yards and under. And geese 30 and under. Heres a few birds shot with 20's.

You may notice these birds are all geese, so a 20 will do the job, just not at the range of a 12 gauge.
