Nova jamming

I just bought my son a new Nova last night after he completed his hunter safety course and we're having a problem with it today. I took him up to our local range so he could do some shooting and get comfortable with his new prize, and we've run into a problem with it jamming on 3" FastSteel. It cycles light dove loads without a hitch, but after shooting 3" shell it jams shut to the point where I have to engage the forearm release which is very stiff at this point, and exert some extreme force to get the gone to cycle and expell the spent casing. Has anyone else had this happen? Is there something I should be looking at, or some type of break in procedure?

Well it wouldn't shoot Rem's, Fed's, Kent's, or Win's so I took it and we switched out the trigger group. Still didn't fix it so now the store has it back and I bought a new auto. I know this forum is anti Stoeger M2000, but it was for my son and cost was an issue. It shoots great with no horror stories to tell. We took it out and ran about 200 rounds of mixed loads, brands and lengths and it performed flawlessly without a hitch. Maybe I'll pick one up for me to beat up in the decoys this winter.

Glad that the store took it back. There's something wrong if it doesn't cycle that many different brands especially for a pump. DId they offer a possible explaination? Chamber need polishing? Your son will probably like the less felt recoil of the Stoeger anyway.

BTW, you may have seen this old article but the recoil reducer idea seems nice and has been discuused on this forum at various times:

The only explanation we could find was that the recoil from heavier loads was causing the mag release to not engage fully. I think the reciever itself was out of tolerance causing the bind. The store was great to work with, it was Sportsmans Warehouse. The manager was very easy to work with and took the gun back without any hesitation.
