Jerry martin Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I recently bought a new SBE II , 12 ga, with 24" barrell and had shot it a few times at quail using IC choke and did not seem to hit very good but never patterned it. Then, as turkey season was to start I started patterning it with their full choke tube. I was amazed when I was hardly on the turkey poster . All of my hits were very high , most off the paper , all at about 35 yards. I used 3 different kind of winchester shells( all # 5's) including 3" magnum lead, 3" supreme extended range, and 3 1/2 " supreme elite extended range. The first thing I did was put in the C shim to increase the drop. No significant change in results however. Anyone faced this problem and got any ideas on how to fix the problem ? I also have a M1 benelli that shot the turkeys target head almost off under the same shooting conditions and tests. Quote
Steelhead Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Your SBE is shooting high with all the chokes? Did you replace the factory front bead? On my SBE, after replacing the front bead with a Tru Glo sight, it brought my POI up about 3" @ 30 yds. It's good for trap. Quote
Jerry martin Posted March 26, 2008 Author Posted March 26, 2008 I have not tested it with all the chokes but is shooting very high with the full choke and using turkey loads. I want to bring the POI down , not up. I do not do trap. Thanks for your input. Quote
CH/QuakerBoyProstaff Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Put a taller bead or sight on it and this will bring the barrel down as well. Where EXACTLY, are you aiming at the turkey target,at the base of the neck, the actual head, etc? Quote
Jerry martin Posted March 26, 2008 Author Posted March 26, 2008 I am aiming at the head. I am use to this aiming based on other guns I use such as the benelli M-1 and would like to be consistent. Thanks for the input. It makes good sense. Quote
CH/QuakerBoyProstaff Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 No problem. I myself aim at the waddles(the funky looking skin on the neck, where the feathers stop and the skin begins) Shells are so expensive,I want as many to hit in the neck, spine, and scull as possible,so I get my money's worth!LOL:D JK Quote
