Proper Mounting for Nova

I was out with a buddy and it seems I am not mounting my nova properly. This is my first shotgun and I don't have much experiance with it. I was wondering if someone can give me some pointers.

The big end goes to your shoulder and the end with hole in the end of the thing that looks like a piece of pipe goes towards something you don't like.

Ha Ha, Now I know what I was doing wrong,

 

OK, let me further explain. It seems that mount the butt into my shoulder like a rifle and drop my check on the stock.

 

I was told that I was mounting it wrong because I should not be dropping my check on the stock.

 

Is this all bull? I was able to hit a few clay targets a couple of weeks back (first time shooting it).

 

Any help or links to reference material would be great.

I've always used shotguns without putting my cheek on the stock when I was growing up. I noticed the cheek pad on the ComforTech stock on my SNT while shooting at the skeet range, took a few shots with my cheek directly on it and WOW, it was so comfortable, I could've fallen asleep on it.
