  1. Is the trigger Guard on a M2 Super 90 Plastic, Aluminum, or steel?

Plastic, and no it should last you a lifetime. I have over 12000 rounds through mine after hunting and sporting clays over a 2 year span. I would average about 3 flats a month for shooting clays games.

  2. Sorry guy's if this question seems dumb, I am new to the shotgun world and was wondering what choke would work best for shooting clay pigeons, my gun is a benelli super nova, it came with 3 chokes they are marked F, M, and IC, the F must be Full choke, M for modified, and IC for Improved Cylinder? again which would be best for shooting "clays"?

I would start with the MOD as that would give you the best coverage in Sporting Clays and trap. If you were just going to shoot skeet then I would put in the IC.

  3. Greetings Everybody,

Just saw on Gun Broker a skeletonized M4/1014 stock and pistol grip for $1000. All other outlets are saying the stocks are "no longer available."

Does anyone have any info on what is going on with the stock/grip? I'm willing to drop 400-500 simoleons (tops). Supply and demand -- you gotta love/hate it.

Obviously you have not seen what some clay shooting sports have paid for their custom fit gun stocks. I just spent $2200.00 for a new butt stock on my sporting clays gun. I have seen others that were well over $5000.00 for some really nice wood.

I am actually thinnking about having a new butt stock done for my M2.

    To each his own.

  4. Ahhh, you remembered... Well, by the time I got it repaired and then blued it would have been almost as much as a new barrel. I am considering the new barrel so I can go with a 24" over the 26" I have now.

Is there any place than can cut a screw-in choke type barrel down and re-thread it for chokes again? (not sure if this is even possible) This would be an option if someone can do it, as then the damaged part would get cut off since it right on the end.

You might also want ot check with Seminole Gun works. They have what they call their SG2 system. It is basically a Beretta Mobile choke backbored and the barell rethreadded for their SG2 chokes.

  5. At this time my lab Tread is fully recovered, he looks and acts like his normal self but the vet wants to keep him on meds for a few more weeks. The vet told me the Lymes virus will always be with him and he will not become resistant to Lymes like we would to Chicken Pox, and in times of extreme stress the disease could act up again. No other long term effects seem visible at this time.

I am now a little paranoid about ticks, and keep him well protected with Front Line and a spray on touch up after water activities. Two weeks ago he came home with 10 ticks on him, I almost flipped - only common wood ticks but after you spend all that money and see your pet so sick you get a little jumpy.

The tick season ran well into fall in WI last year, so take care of your hunting partners.

Thanks for the update. Glad all is well with your buddy.

  6. AS Tucker said great report.

As a rule I take my M2 apart and remove, clean and inspect the recoil spring and plunger every year after hunting season.

It is not to difficult. You have listed most of the instructions on how to do it. The one thing that I do when I take it apart is to insert a banana plug into the small hole to keep the spring compressed during dissassembly and assembly. For those of you not familliar with this type of plug, it is what is on the end of meter leads for volt meters. They wont hurt the gun and are pretty cheap and easy to find at Radio Shack.

I use a 410 swab to clean out the tube and to oil it as well. Then use a light oilling of the spring with a patch and reassemble.

This only adds about 20 minutes to the total cleaning time for the gun,

  7. Why wasn't this part included with my gun? Isn't that part the cast adjustment?

Well I was going to post a pic but for some reason...I can't. It is the part in the lower right corner that says SX

    http://www.benelliusa.com/firearms/large/partsShims.jpg

If you take the recoil pad off you will see this part inside the but stock. If it is like my M2 all you should need to do is to remove the one that is in there pull it straight out and look at it. Then turn it over and re insert it.

  8. my benelli M2 12-gauge shoots high with my factory benelli choke tubes.... can anyone match choke tube and hevi-shot or steel shot size AND what manuf. and size choke tube (modified etc..) would anyone recommend for approx. 35 yard shots at passing waterfowl???????? thanks!

I also have a Benelli M2 and it shoots quite well for me. With the factory mod choke my gun shoots pretty flat.

Before you go out and attempt to find the "perfect choke" you might want to check your gun mount and fit.

Have you tried adjusting the fit using the shims? Tha would be the first place to try. Then work on your mount to get it consistant and good.

These are both freebies that you can check etc. At 20 to 50 per choke you could quickly end up with a collection of chokes taht you do not like.

  9. Why is it that the SBE II has a midrib bead and the M2 does not? I've heard that on a SBE you stack the beads to make a figure 8. Why would Benelli not do the same for the M2?

I'll also have to ask why??

While we are at it why don't they offer a ported barrel like the Super sports and Cordoba?

If your heart is set on having a mid-bead then order the SBEII one and have your favorite gun smith install one.

  10. Vest made by extreme are $90+, MizMac are $90+(got one for the wife). I know there are cheaper ones and more expensive. If you can dish out the money for an SBEII or a SS then I don't think $90 vest is going to hurt you. Don't they say "Performance worth the price" or "Simply Perfect", ha, ha....

Go to Bob Allen and look at their vests, you will find similarly and higher priced vests.

  11. The primary advantage to extended tubes is that they are easily changed by hand. This is convenient for those weird people who like to shoot those funny little birds that you can't cook.

Briley, Carlson's, Primos, and others make extended tubes to fit your gun, so go buy some and be happy. ;)

I havge a set of Briley's X2 Extended chokes for my M2 and Briley says the same do not shot other than lead through chokes tighter than MOD. They went a little farther and said that heavy shot was ok in an IMOD though.

Those funny little birds are quite tasy when smoked with hickory or mesquite. But you are correct in that it makes the chokes easier to change and to also easier to know what choke you have installed at clays shoots. As to patterning better, that is a push. Some say yes others are not so sure.

Keep up the good work Tucker.

  12. The gunsmith's Brownell's catalog had one replacement listed, but it was about $400. Any suggestions for other, more reasonable sources? Or, should we just go ahead and hack away?

Check out Wenigs. THey have various different grades of wood and such.

I think that is the correct link.

  13. Is this an SBE or SBE II?

In either case you could use the supplied shims to adjust the point of impact once you get your mount correct. You never mentioned that in your rants. Heck my M2 was way out in left field until I adjusted the cast and drop. Now it shoots pretty flat. But it took a fair amount of work on my part of patterning and to get a good move and mount.

But since you are so dead set against this gun, maybe a simpler design is what you need. :D

Just as a point of reference have you should check out the horror stories about Brownings service in the Browning Lovers section. :D The grass is not always greener.

got home and cleaned it not a problem, but there are really dark spots in the checkering. My understanding was people hunted wood guns in the rain, now I see the friggen thing just soaks up water in the checkering and goes dark black.

I've since dried it out but common guys... and the more I think of it, the inside of the forearm isn't finished either, nor is the end near the receiver or under the buttplate. The rest of the satin coat is thick and really nice but the checkering on both the forearm and stock is exposed and rough I guess.

I'm thinking of trading up to a sbe2 or trading down to a wet weather beater of a supernova or 870.

This sucks. I love the gun never 1 failure in any capacity yet either, its flawless, just not good for waterfowl in the rainy october weather.

What buttplate do you recommend? I'll check then out. thanks

You are about 1/3 of the way to the a couple of the best stock fitters around. They are in Polson Montana. They were recomended to me by several others and they are doing a but stock for my Beretta 682 Gold Sporting. After I get it back I will probably be having them do my M2 as well. They dont just bend things around. They will get it close in the shop then out to hte patterning board then back into the shop etc untill it is right.
