  1. Here's a little food for thought, I am shooting a TruGLO Strutstopper Xtreme .643 with 3in Hevi-Shot Hevi13 #6 in my Supernova and M1 S90 for turkeys. I ran this combo last season, brought an end to six longbeards with it, and still have my fingers, toes, and barrels in tact.

Check out the picture in Comp n Chokes FAQ section of their site

  2. The guys at Kicks have historicaly always tried to play it safe and stay out of legal trouble. Ever since the introduction of Hevi-Shot, it has been hard to get a straight answer out of them. You will notice that many other manufacturers have jumped in and started swimming with it, and Kicks and Comp n Choke, have stayed close to the shore.

  3. The SHOT show is the biggest show there is in the shooting/outdoor industry. This is where the media and dealers get to see what is coming out, handle the goods and place orders for the new stuff.

It is being held in Orlando Fl. and starts this Thursday and runs through Sunday. All the big manufacturers will be there to debut the new lines of stuff. I will be there at the Quaker Boy booth #3217. Stop by and say hi if you are at the show!

  4. Thanks for your kind words!

Each type of shell, shot size, length, shot material, etc. will usually produce different results from gun to gun, choke to choke..

Sometimes 3.5in shells and 3in shoot identical patterns, and sometimes one will put more pellets on the paper than other. The only true way to see is to try a box of each. Two boxes of standard lead loads(Remington Nitro,Winchester Supreme, etc) will cost you the same as one box of the exotic stuff(Hevi 13,Wingmaster HD) and give you more shells to test with. My advice to you is find a Choke tube you like, and can afford, and try to find a load that likes it. This will be the most economical way.

Here is a tip for you also: After turkey season is over, there are usually a lot of 3.5in shells left over at one of "The Marts" that get marked down really cheap, allowing you to stock up and test in the off season, when everyone else is fishing:p

  5. On the subject of inflatables, there is this company called Cherokee, that makes some really awesome decoys in some lifelike poses. The heads are hard plastic molded from real turkey heads. Check them out!

  6. Sometimes the high dollar tubes are right on the money, and sometimes the cheaper ones get the job done. Each gun has it's own likes and dislikes, and will do different things with what you feed it. If you have any friends who also shoot a Supernova,Nova, or older SBE or M1, you might want to invite them to a patterning session with you so you can switch and swap tubes and shells to compare as well as cut costs by not having to buy all the ammo. Have them each bring a different type of shell or at least different size shot sizes, so you can cover more ground. Good Luck, and have fun!

  7. Try starting out with an economical tube like The Undertaker, from HS Strut, and work around it with the shells you are considering.

I have seen some fantastic patterns from Supernova's using these $20 tubes. If you don't like this one, then you are only out that $20, and you can try something else.

  8. It really depends on your particular gun, as each one has different charactoristics, and which load/shotshell suits your hunting situation. Two guns could come off the assembly line next to each other and fitted with the same choke and load, shoot two completely different patterns. If you look back through this thread, you will see this same question fought over and defended by people with personal preference and also bias. You will however, notice trends also, as certain chokes and companies being mentioned more than once. My advice is to dig back through this thread and see if any of the ones mentioned (Jelly-Head,Undertaker,Carlson's,etc) get your attention, and then take it from there. This isn't a one answer deal, but it sure is a blast finding the truth!:D
