I don't know if you've noticed, but the improved modified and the full chokes that come with the SBE II say "no steel" on them, at least mine do. Can't quite understand why a top shelf waterfowl gun would come with only 3 out of 5 chokes rated for steel shot

I use the Federal Top Gun 1 1/8 oz #8 3 Dram in my SBE II and have never had a problem, the only 1 oz loads I use are reloads in a Remington STS hull with SRC wads and Clays powder. never had a problem

I had the same problem at first, all i did was hold onto the barrel and the receiver and tap the butt on the floor and it popped in place. Now after a few months of use it usally seats o.k. or I just have to bounce the butt on my knee.

I've been using Reloading Specialties supplies for about 5 years or so now. Buy it from Bucks Run Sports Suppy. Real good people to do business with. I usually only reload recipie #127 with #3 steel. Works great on ducks over decoys out to 35-40 yards. For big late season mallards and blacks I use a duplex load of #127 with 20% #1 steel over 80% #3. Kind of tedioius to load but the results are worth it. I always hand measure my charges of Alliant Steel powder because it's hard to get consistant throws on my mec so you might want to be real careful going over 1600 fps. I tried the real fast loads but found #1 patterns blow apart #2 nobody will stand next to you in the blind because of the muzzle blast and #3 its hard on you and worse on your shotgun, just ask my gunsmith.

I know I dont't have many posts, but for what it's worth this is the kind of lively conversation that keeps me coming back. I've been following the forum for about 6 months now and recently joined because I had a question which mudhen took care of in short order.Everybody's different I guess and that's what makes this forum so great.

I changed from the B to C drop shim and locking plate and that took care of the problem. Thanks for the help

I only shoot skeet as a rule and have never shot trap so the high impact on long trap targets doesn't help me much. I shoot IC For skeet and was shooting Modified for the duck loads. I'm not sure what you mean by not sighting with the beads

I got a SBE II Max 4 for Christmas and have been shooting skeet with it and doing fine. I recently shot a sporting clays course with longer targets and didn't do very well at all. Today I went to the patterning board at my local club to see how my duck loads pattern and the pattern is about a foot high at 30 yards and worse at 40. I have the shim kit that came with it and the drop change schedule in the manual and I assume the B drop shim is in the shotgun because thats the only one I don't have. Here's the question does the stock need to go up or down? Any advice would sure help.

go with the 26"- the wife suprized me last Christmas witha SBEII Max 4 with 26"- thought I'd want the 28 but with the Benelli's longer receiver the 26 is only about 1/2" shorter than my 1187 with a 28" barrel and it feels perfect-can't say enough good things about the SBEII shoots everything from 1 oz. skeet loads to 2 oz. 3 1/2's whithout a hitch and cleans up a lot easier than that 1187
