Well for summer the first and the last ones of your opinions, and the high school doesen't have a shooting team my team is at a club.
-
O.K., my misunderstanding. Congratulations on the graduation and also on your graduation present. Way to go! Be sure and thank Dad in a BIG way for that! Be careful with the new Vinci. Have a great summer.
trust me I thanked him and he said if my grades slip once the vinci is his new waterfowl gun
-
Wait a minute... I thought you ALREADY were shooting a new Vinci? That's what you told us previously... or at least implied with your comments and authoritative contributions. Is this a second purchase or a first, "VinciShooter?"
I've been shooting one but its not mine thats why Bought one actually its eighth grade graduation gift from my dad
-
Already does that every day on this forum!
im not sure what your disapointed at me about I cant say my opinion? I've been asking alot more than saying if you noticed and I graduated tonight actually top of the class
-
i dont joke about saftey stuffI hope he doesn't shoot himself is the foot:( -
I've never shot 350 straight. You should join the ATA and enter some competitions. I'm sure you'll win.
thanks, i joined but i havent gone to any of their shoots my coaches say im naturaly talented but i dont believe in that crap
-
oh yeah my record is 350 straight so you can do it with a field gun and ive shot trap for 5 months
-
well i think thats great that you think that. but i still disagree. its funny how you said about the 100 straight and a shoot off when my friend just got a shoot off with 100 straight then hthey shot 50 straight in the shoot off till the next round were the other guy shot 24 with a browning XT and my friend larry got another 25 and one wich gave him 175 striaght with a nova unmodifiedCan you shoot trap and be successful with a field 870? Of course you can. As is commonly heard on the trap fields (and skeet and sporting clays) "its the Indian, not the arrow."But if you think those more expensive guns don't make a difference, you're wrong.
No, they won't make up for poor shooting. A poor shooter will shoot poorly no matter how expensive his equipment.
And its also true, that an excellent shooter will shoot well even with a field gun.
But, that excellent shooter will probably get benefit from using better equipment.
I have a friend who has a 98% singles trap average, and he shoots a nearly unmodified Remington 1100 trap model (he did have some trigger work done on it.)
I have another friend who also has a 98% singles trap average, and he shoots a Perazzi MX-10 with adjustable rib, adjustable comb, an adjustable butt plate, and a precision release trigger.
One cost less than $1000. The other cost more than $5000. Which one is better? Depends on whom you ask.
A fellow named Leo Harrison broke all kinds of trap shooting records with a Remington 1100 (modified with a high rib and adjustable stock, and precision trigger.) He now shoots a Beretta DT-10. Why? Because its a better gun, and he shoots better scores with it.
Heck, I can shoot 25's with my Mossberg 500. Do I want to try to use it in a competition where I'm shooting 100 singles targets, 100 handicap targets, and 100 doubles targets? Heck no!
It has a terrible trigger, and it kicks like a mule, and it doesn't fit me as well as my trap gun. And over the course of 300 or 400 targets in a day, recoil can be a significant factor. A heavy gun that fits well reduces fatigue due to recoil.
And a good trigger is one of those "little" things good guns have that field guns don't, and you don't appreciate it until you shoot a gun with a good trigger for a while.
Field guns are made to take a few hundred shots a year and last forever.
Competition guns are made to closer tolerances and precision, and made out of better materials, to be able to take 10,000 or 20,000 shots a year and last almost forever (with regular maintenance.)
Breaking 25 and announcing you're better than those trap shooters who have expensive guns is fine. But heads up in a big trap competion, where you break 100 straight, and then you have to shoot off against the other guys who also broke 100 straight, is where you really prove your mettle.
Trap shooters don't shoot expensive guns just for show. There's a reason. The reason is, those guns are better guns, and they're made specifically for the game.

Exactky my friend shoots a perrazi and i cant shoot it it feels like a sissy gun with all the stuff done to it i just dont go for that stuff
-
I shoot 25s in trap with my field 870 and I proved alot of people at my trap club wrong when they said nobody could do it with a field gun so why pay thousands more for a TRAP gun in my opinion a guns a gun I got my vinci well I will have it next wensday and thats gonna be my TRAP gun and they told me no one could shoot over a 23 with a benelli that wont last long any one have any opinions on TRAP guns to field guns:cool:

Vinci shooter, if this is your first duck call I really wouldnt spend too much until you learn to master the basic calls. The call wont exactly make the caller good, it takes a lot of practice and patience for your calls to sound the way they should. My opionion is a higher end call will do a lot more for a more experienced caller.
I would reccomend a $20 - $30 double reed call to start out with, you pick your own brand because it wont really matter that much. Its sort of a personal preferrence. If you like the duck commander calls then go for it, just remember kiss - keep it simple stupid.
see i bought a whole bunch of 20 dollar ones my favorite is my buck gardner double nasty2 my dad and my grandpa said i can call good but to me it doesent sound rite

I dont know if you plan on going alone on this adventure but a good seasoned mentor could be a big help. Forget all the fancy stuff for now, concentrate on the basics. You can decided later what you want or need to invest your time and money in.
A good dog is always a bonus, but not a requirment - that dog will put those lost cripples back into your game bag and save you lots of steps too.
plus the dogs almost like a hunting partner but better

Sorry, no cheap way to do this. Buy the shells and pattern YOUR shotgun/chokes.
What you are asking us is akin to me asking you how I would like my steak cooked.
I think he's just wondering what patterns best I would ask the same question
-
I'm shooting a SuperNova for waterfowling. Can anyone share some wisdom on what steel, bismuth, black cloud, hevi-shot, or hevi-steel that the SuperNova seems to like? Unfortunately you cant buy these shells individually, therefore variable patterning can get very expensive. Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated.
my friend had a supernova before he got his xtrema2 and he used black cloud for geese and kents fast steel for ducks and trust me he gets them! hope it helps im already gearing up for duck season and i still got till october

Thanks for starting to answer the other questions. Being new to not sure all the questions I should ask. Need to find someone in the Richmond, VA area to talk with and get to go out in the field/wetlands. Joined Ducks Unlimited and thought that would be a good starting point to get to know other waterfowlers. Eventually, I want to get the dog (lab or golden) and train it. I am looking to go full tilt on this.
I am really interested in Canadian Geese. So I guess I start with those decoys and I am planning on fixing up the old jon boat with a paint job and blinding a blind for it this spring. What other gear do I need to look at?
first of all black lab, and i would start on calling practice check out the original duck commander and art of commanding ducks dvd, the clothes look befor or after season for good deals

I have a 1992 M1 S90 and am thinking about trading it up for a new M2. What are the pros and cons. My gun is a 21 inch field model. I'm looking at a 24 inch field. I duck hunt and dove hunt with this gun. Thanks for your opinions.
21in!! as a hunting gun NO NO NO NO NO! you got to atleast go 26in 28 would be better

ok maybe ill look into somthing else this needs to be one of those one time get it rite situations im looking into a burnt hedge 72 series duck commander call, look it up on duckcommander.com, its under premium or somthing like that in the call sectionnot really, but im not a master duck caller or anything like that, only started duck calling last september. Its really just a matter of preference. I also hunt different terrain than you do -
would you recomend echos or noblue diamond wood and poly, and no I haven't blown an xlt. I have blown a single reed coca, it was ok. My next call will prolly be an acrylic RNT Daisy Cutter. I have blown two and liked both. -
The only ones I've seen have been camo.
yeah exactly all benelli is manufacturing is camo for now god i should have got a sbe2
