  1. ive been told the winchester x-perts are junk if you cut one apart and look whats inside.i have to shoot steel or expensive nontoxics here in minnesota too.

You asked the question, I gave you my experienced opinion. I've been shooting them for many, many years and can't recall one bad experience. Buy a box and try them out, you'll get a better idea and be able to decide for yourself. We all have our preferences. I've been "told" that Benellis are pieces of junk too, but mine have been nothing but sheer pleasure and as reliable as nite and day. If you can afford "better" ammo, then by all means buy them.

The Winchester Xpert does the job for me, that's all that matters anyway.

  2. ok everyone there is so much talk about aftermarket chokes....Im just starting to get big into goose hunting and need to know the basics on shot size's and chokes.im shooting an I-12.what does everyone recommend shooting for shells,oz??bb??t??...and what factory choke should i shoot.im shooting over decoys in wheat stubble,my decoys are all shells(not any fancy full flocked full bodys) so the geese never lock in hard and want land, a lot of high shooting goes on.give me some incite and knowledge please.thanks

My experiences tell me to use a standard(lead)modified choke and BBB or T shot in 3", 1-1/4 oz. steel. As for the types of shotshells, I can't afford the heavy non-toxic loads like Bismuth or Tungsten and the Black Cloud so I buy the 1400fps Winchester Xpert 1-1/4oz x 3". Last case cost me $109 delivered to California through Mack's Prairie Wings.

I do understand that there are some very good "waterfowl" chokes available also.

I kill my geese with BB's over decoys, feet down and out to roughly 40yds.

  3. Yep....I found it and I am closely watching it.

    I will bid as well.

    It has 4 days left

Excellant! I also found through a search:

    CORSON'S BARRELS

    DON CORSON

    2124 PAWNEE DR.

    KINGMAN, AZ 86401

    928-718-4282

Benelli barrels, an M2 barrel is the same barrel as the M1...only difference would be that the M2 had a crio barrel so the chokes would be different from the standard M1 non-crio barrels.

click on the "misc Shotgun Barrels" link on the left side of the webpage.

  4. I believe it is not a matter of which one is best, that is like argueing politics because everybody has an opinion, but which aftermarket choke do "YOU" like best.

I use Carlson's extended chokes because they're reasonably priced and easy to change. I also feel the factory chokes are excellant. That is my experience and my preferances.

I will say stay away from the "poly choke".

I have used Kick's chokes before(HK-SBE) but didn't really care for the sound and felt they didn't make any difference over the factory chokes. I gave them away, but I also got a great deal on them.

  5. I just finished reading the owners manual. On the loading instructions it says my Benelli Nova can take up to 4 2 3/4 shells in the magazine. I tried loading it as the instructions indicated and was only able to load 2 shells. When attempting to load the third it would go in about 90% and then stop. Is this normal? Am I doing somthing wrong? I live in Texas and was bought at an Academy Sports and Outdoors. Could it be that Texas prohibits more than 2 rounds in the magazine?

Please help. I am new to shotguns and this is my first Benelli.

    Thanks in advance

Your Nova comes with a "limiter plug" installed in the magazine tube. It can be removed by simply unscrewing the end cap and pulling it out.

"A limiter plug limits firearm capacity to two shells in the magazine tube and one in the chamber to comply with various game laws that limit shotgun capacity. Always check local game and hunting regulations before heading into the field."

  6. mudhen, I do most of my shooting in Suisun Bay and Grizzly Bay now. I'm retired and live in Fresno so I don't get out as much anymore. I did shoot a nice drake Old Squaw across from the mothball fleet in Benecia 2 years ago. My first.

  7. .....of Canvasbacks!

To see 100 or so these working a big open water spread is the stuff of which dreams are made!

I don't care if I don't shoot the gun any more this year!

Mine is second from the left.

Nice! I hope you guys made the hen shooter pay dearly...I shoot mine in the Napa river and San Pablo Bay in N California, Where are you shooting them?

  8. I love my M1 Field, but it's getting close to retirement.

My original plan was to bump up to the M2, however,

I was in Scheels the other day and noticed a used, but in mint condition M1 for darn cheap.

So here's my question. Does the fancy choke system, recoil pad and dampning system really matter that much? i mean.. I have never noticed a sore shoulder or had problems with muzzle jump with my M1.

Looking for honest answers. We're talking about $650 savings between the two.

Is there any reason you're retiring the M1? Unless you just want a newer used or new Benelli or your gun doesn't function reliably, why would you buy another?

  9. i live in Brazil and recently imported a Benelli Vinci Black from Italy; I´m having problem in cycling 24 grams shotshells. It only cycles when the trigger is pulled very fast and no press done on it. When you press normally the trigger it does not cycles. With 32 gramas shotshells no problem. Any body knows some adjustment to do ?

I agree, shoot nothing less than a 1oz(28gr.)shotshell. My Vinci cycles reliably with the 1oz. loads.

  10. hello everybody,,

i own a Benelli crio the first generation not the second one,,

i guess it's E.U only you can check it on www.benelli.it

it has the crio chokes but only comes with 2 chokes

    *** and *****

i want to purchase the * choke

but then i noticed that the crio chokes are different

like the M2 crio chokes they have like half an inch of smooth surface then the threadings but on my crio chokes the choke from top starts directly with the threadings,,

are the crio chokes cross compatible or i should specificaly order the same chokes that i have or could i order the crio plus chokes(i think they are called crio plus)

    thanks for any help

A Crio choke is a Crio choke, the only differences are if they are flush with the barrel or extended past the barrel.

That said, I buy my extended chokes through Carlson's Chokes and have for years. They work great and are as reasonably priced as anything available.

    http://www.choketube.com/crio-plus.html

If the threads are at the very end of the choke, I would say it is a standard choke, not a Crio, even though it is considered an early crio barrel. Have you called customer service?

  11. I have an ealier M1 Super 90 Tac with the straight butt stock (ser # M125XXX) and I'm wondering if there is a good prefit recoil pad for it? From what I've seen I'll have to send my black plastic butt stock out to Simms for a grind to fit installation, I'd rather just swap it out myself without having to fit one. Has anyone found a good prefit pad? Thanks

    I've yet to find one.

  12. I shoot a HK/Benelli SBE and now have a new Vinci and have been shooting 3" #2's for 18 years. Find they work the best for me.

I don't often shoot past 35 yards so I prefer Winchester Xpert 1-1/4oz, it's fairly cheap @ $109 delivered from Mack's PW. I just don't care for the 1-1/8oz fast steel or the expensive heavy non-toxics. I haven't lost any cripples in years.

  13. So I currently have a SuperNova APG 26" and I am starting to prepare / think about deer season and don't know what to do. I am thinking about either purchasing a either a Slug barrel to put on my SuperNova or considered buying a gun for deer season. Any input on this decision would be greatly appreciated.

    Steve -

Able Ammo has Super Nova rifled barrels in stock.

  14. That is a normal sound. It is the bolt head sliding back and forth. Funny how paranoia can work on a guys mind..Mike

I know that my HK SBE has a solid sound to it's bolt rattle while the bolt sound of my Vinci is very solid and a rattle sound is non-existance.

  15. Agreed! Why in the wide, wide, world of sports would anyone buy a fine hunting shotgun like a SBE and then want to use 7/8oz loads in it? IMO, 12ga 7/8oz loads are for O/U guns and have no use whatsoever in the field.

They, 12ga 7/8oz loads, do make great quail loads...Slim Pickens in Blazing Saddles...

  16. Hmmm, good input. I may be hosed anyway, because what I really need is the 14" LOP pad, and the Sims will be much thicker than that. I'm not too worried about it being hard to remove, because I don't intend to remove it once I have the stock/pad dialed in the way I want it, but it's definitely not good if the pad just falls out!

Does anyone know of a supplier that has the 14" gel pads in stock? I'm finding that Benelli parts are scarcer than hen's teeth! Any help you could provide would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I ordered mine thru Brownells and it cost me $116 + shipping-$122...

  17. looking to buy a layout blind for this comming season and was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction. thanks

FA brand, Final Approach...original and the first layout. I had the good fortune to shoot out of a prototype with the founder up in SE Washington around 1989-90, Ron Latschaw. He was a guide in Alaska and would spend the waterfowl season guiding in Washington.

  18. My HK SBE has never eaten 1oz loads, even after 17 years of use. Benelli put new springs in it last year and no diff. The SBEII isn't the gun for light loads even though some can cycle them. My new Vinci does handle the 1oz loads without failure, but the 7/8 oz are a no no. I would suggest, no matter what you read here, choose a SS, Montefeltro, Vinci or another Benelli if you want to shoot 1oz loads. Even then, use the recommended minimum loads as a guidline for a decision. Otherwise, like someone else recommended, get a stack barrel or another brand (Beretta) that can handle the lighter loads.

    Good luck!

  19. I'm in the market for a new semi-auto shotgun and i have been looking into an M2 or the Cordoba. I want to hunt a little bit of everything but at the same time do target shooting. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

    Thanks, Matt

All great guns...how much are you willing to spend on what you like? Cordoba's aren't the least expensive but a great gun just as the M2 is. Have you considered the SBEII or the Vinci? Wood or synthetic? Such a tough decision to have to make? Yeah right!

    Good luck!

  20. proud new owner of a 28" max-4 vinci. picked it up for $1263.50. best price ive seen and ive been lookin for quite a while. only put a few shells through it but WOW!!! i love this thing already.

Congrats! Great price and I think it'll be a great shotgun in true Benelli tradition. I love mine too. Enjoy!

  21. The stocks on my 12ga and 20ga Cordoba's are too long. The short pad might work on the 20ga but I think the 12 would kick too hard for it. I have a SBE II and the plastic stock and it is 1/2" shorter than the Cordoba's and with a Limbsaver pad it is perfect. Any Ideas on what to do. I don't want to dump Benelli but they will not work like they are.

    Thank you

    Dirtnap

Use the short pad, it really isn't that bad. I have a 14" LOP and had to p/u the short pad so my Vinci would fit me. Worked out great.

Talk to Benelli CS about which pad will work for you. The Vinci's Comfort Tech stock is slightly longer than the other CT stocks, otherwise I could have used the mid length pad.
