  1. One option I liked on the FastFire 2 was the protective wing option. It was like a U-Channel that surrounded the optic on both sides to protect it from bumps and abrasions. Looks like a good idea to me and the price was reasonable.

  2. Isn't there a Kurt Vonnegut novel where the office of President is only assigned to people that don't want to hold the office?

"There is a tragic flaw in our precious Constitution, and I don't know what can be done to fix it. This is it: only nut cases want to be president. This was true even in high school. Only clearly disturbed people ran for class president." Kurt Vonnegut, Man Without a Country 2005

  3. If everybody on the forums sends me $20 I will suffer the humiliation of being an early adopter. I promise to faithfully report back to everyone with detailed info on its performance or lack thereof. It will be my dirty little secret.

I looked over a SIG556 this weekend at the gun store and it fits me really well. Much more natural to hold and fire than the Mini14. Unfortunately, the Mini14 is still the one that fits my budget.

  4. It was Palin that put me off. I think it would have been difficult to distinguish between Palin and Tina Fey on the evening news. Seriously I don't feel represented by either party anymore. They both appear to have been hijacked by the extremists. I do seriously hope that the Republicans can provide us some better candidates next time around.

Maybe we should start a third party? The Benelli Party has a nice ring to it...or bring back the "Know Nothing" party. I could relate to that too. At least we wouldn't have any expectations.

  5. Isn't there some official Benelli brand of felt tip marker you could use to hold the guns at a photogenic angle. The HiLighter Markers are really tacky! Maybe you could have the markers vacuum chrome plated and engraved to match?

  6. Official Response from Benelli Customer Service regarding corrosion and pitting of the gas pistons on the R1 rifles:

"There is no problem with the guns. Rust is a result from improper storage in most cases or irregular cleaning.

    Thank You"

I guess we should stop storing them in damp peat moss and cleaning them with rock salt.:p

  7. I tell people I'm picking careers by process of elimination. I've been a newspaper photographer, machinist, construction worker, project manager, computer Network engineer, and most recently an IT Director. I can trace my current IT Director job backwards through a series of random events to the day I applied for a job operating a fork lift! Go figure. I did the MBA program at Case Western Reserve University. At the time it was one of the top twenty business schools in the US. Ultimately, I think the better paying jobs just came with age.

Set goals and work towards them, it's surprisingly effective.

  8. In what manner do you beleive it to be "not straight"? Are you speaking of an alignment problem with the sights, a misalignment between the barrel and receiver, or a bent barrel? What symptoms are you experiencing?

  9. Those little cartridges shoot pretty far. I had a box of them when I was a kid. They were used for some industrial process. Instead of piercing the end with a hollow needle there was a little peg on the end that was really easy to break off. They do shoot liquid CO2 and frost over instantly.

You will probably have better luck with an Estes Model Rocket engine and use a primed shotshell to ignite the engine.

    WHO THE **** SAID THAT!

    NOT ME!

I disclaim any liability whatsoever should any one attempt to build a really cool rocket gun.

  10. ...Because my Benelli M3 cycles shells out of the magazine when working the action by hand...

    Jesse

My understanding was the M3 was a hybrid between a pump and semi-auto. The pump action may override the drop lever or make it redundant. On the Benelli's, I believe all the current semi-autos require the use of the drop lever (except M3). The confusion arises when shooters are familiar with the action of the pump and expect the semi-auto to cycle the same way. A previous post in this thread mentioned it was a design feature to allows the quick change of the chambered cartridge (buckshot to slug for instance.) I don't have enough experience to tell you how common the function is or if its peculiar to Benelli.

Does your M3 have a cartridge drop lever?

  11. I'm glad I at least picked a 40cal pistol. The support for 45s appears to be the majority. If I bought a 9mm you guys would probably toss me off the forum. I'll have to rent a few 45s. I do like the single stack magazine for a CCW. It doesn't look like there is any problem concealing the barrel length. The thickness looks like the trick to CCW. The SIG 239 may fit my needs. Its a compact, single stack available in 40cal. That way I only have one cartridge to stockpile.

  12. I've not tried a true 45 caliber 1911 style yet. I don't care for the grip safeties though. I'm not sure if it shares any other features with a true 1911 but I rented an XD-M in 9mm a few weeks ago and the grip safety drove me nuts. I felt like I had to consciously grip the pistol in an unnatural fashion. They do have interchangeable grips that were not available on the rental. I'm not sure how much difference it would have made. I just could not imagine trying to use the gun in a stressful situation. I'd be standing there trying to figure out why it wouldn't shoot. The best way I can discribe it was it felt like I was constantly shooting uphill.

  13. Being very happy with my first firearm purchase (the M4) I find myself blinded by brand loyalty. I was seriously looking at the MR1 as an AR Rifle but, some of you guys with more experience waved enough flags I'm putting off that decision until I get more info. I find myself purchasing a pistol as my second acquisition. Benelli does not have any pistol offerings as far as I know and a short barrel, pistol grip shotgun won't do.

I just picked up a SIG P226SCT this holiday weekend after many months of research and range rentals. I took it out for the first time yesterday and am very happy with it. The fit, finish, and function easily exceeded my expectations. It's a bit big for concealed carry but I'm shooting it well.

I've seen a lot of postings here of members' assault rifle preferences but I can't recall much being written about pistols.

What pistols do you guys own and what function are they for; taget, home defence, concealed carry, etc??

  14. The suggestions have ranged from duct tape to $600 imported Swiss rail systems. I have not seen any I like yet either. To be honest some of the simple mounts that clamp to the magazine are looking good to me. I don't like the idea of having to remove it every time I break down the gun. Something integral to the front grip would be ideal but I want to use it as a grip and not have it covered with rails.

  15. While dove hunting in south Texas my SBE II stopped cycling shells from the magazine into the chamber. Even when I manually retract the bolt to unload the gun the shells stay in the magazine. Any help would be appreciated. I dont want to send it back for warranty work if I dont have to. Thanks!

    Two separate issues:

    1) You stated "While dove hunting in south Texas my SBE II stopped cycling shells from the magazine into the chamber." That would be abnormal.

    2) You also stated "Even when I manually retract the bolt to unload the gun the shells stay in the magazine." This IS normal unless you press the cartridge drop lever each time.

You either have to fire the gun or push the cartridge drop lever to allow the next round to cycle. You cannot empty the magazine just by cycling the bolt manually.

Failure to feed from the mag while firing is a problem. I am not familiar with the SBE II but many posts here concern low recoil ammo and failure to cycle. I believe the Inertia Drive models also require the butt stock to be firmly pressed against your shoulder. It may fail to cycle if you are trying to shoot from the hip for instance.

  16. I am 6' 7'' inches tall. Probably the root of my problem. Great for changing light bulbs though!!!

I'm 6' 6" and had a funny situation at a local indoor range. I'm shooting pistols at 7 yards to practice for my concealed carry permit and one of the counter guys comes out and taps me on the shoulder and tells me to put down my weapon. He explains that my shots are hitting the floor before hitting the backstop and insists I shoot higher on the target. I'm shooting at standard silhouette targets, aiming for center mass, and there's no way to move them higher up on the target holder. I start looking at the shooting angles and realize that at my height I'm going to be hitting the floor unless I shoot the target in the head or move it out another 8 yards. I want to qualify at the distance I'll be tested on so I opt to paste a 8" Shoot N C target over the head of my silhouette and resume shooting. After two mags a different guy comes out and taps me on the shoulder and points to a sign on the wall that reads "No Head Shots".

If you see a news story about a home invasion in Ohio, where the perp was shot repeatedly in the throat, you'll know it was me.:p
