  1. It is easy to believe people are experiencing accuaracy issues. First: Most people do not post problems they are not experiencing. Human nature being as it is leads people to lift up the things they possess. That is why the honda civic owner next door is always revving up his engine before going. "His car is soooo powerfull". Second: and more importantly. I am experiencing the same thing. A gun guy my entire life. Farm kid from northern Saskatchewan living in northern Alberta. I belong to several gun forums. All of which I own a gun. I have not seen complaints about accuracy from other forums. Check out some of them. Wby Nation for instance. I broke this gun (benelli) in the proper and long way. Shoot clean, Shoot clean, etc... With a semi that was a process I'll tell you. This is by far the nicest rifle I own and I paid over $3000 so I was not taking any shortcuts. I have seen your gun so I know you can appreciate what I am saying. I also know Wby monitors Wby Nation because they have kicked in and responded to at least two posts that I know of. Now to a greater point. If you go to Wby Nation and check back posts you will find a issue that has upset Wby owners. That is the trigger. Most will part factory trigger for timmney. Wby came on line after a post similar to my Benelli post was put up. They agreed to look into it and now about a year latter they have produced a new and improved trigger. That got me thinking that maybe a post directed at Benelli just may get noticed. You have decided my post is antagonistic and degraditory and have taking offence to it so this will be my last post on the subject. You have missed the purpose and picked it apart. I wasn't posting a jab at anyone.
  2. You did not read very well. If you read my post again I said there may be exeptions But, But, But, I know I could etc. etc. etc. So I did not call everyone a liar. I only said it's too easy to do. I almost did it myself because I did not want to admit I can't group less than 3 inches with my Benelli at 100 yrds. I can shoot sub moa all day with my bolt. I shot moa with my friends Bar and almost single holes with my 22-250. I have read enough to know I am not alone here and I would love to see this trend reverse. I think my Benelli is the sharpest rifle I have ever owned and I think they should shoot as well as they look and feel. Now, that said you can take offence if you want. I said what I said and with no intention of hurting anyones thin skin but I retract nothing.
  3. If Benelli ever checks these threads, (and I would if I owned a reputable gun Co.), I just want you to know that I find your R1/Argo rifle to be the most comfortable and most eye appealing rifle I have ever owned. The potential for you to steal top marks in high end rifle manufacturing is almost there. The problem is this. A rifle at the price you ask should be extraordinarily accuarate. You should be able to gaurantee a 1 1/2 MOA. I have read enough posts to know I am not alone here. It is my opinion that if you cannot get the accuaracy with your present barrels you should seek a reputable barrel maker. I would buy another in a heartbeat if this where done. As for those posts showing tight groups? Maybe there are exceptions. I know I could shoot a 5 shot group and cover it with a nickel with my Wby .257 Mrk V and post it here as a benelli group. Nobody likes to admit their rifle doesn't shoot so great. I'm not trying to be negative toward your product. On the contrary. I want your rifle to be as great as your shotguns. I just see a need for improvment. Especially at the price.
  4. Benelli Armi (itatly) advetises a optional 5 shot mag. At the bottom of the mag accessories under optional. They have 10 shot for 308 and 06 only right from benelli. how hard it will be to order one from italy i could not say. Worth a try. I may try myself. Note: when at the benelli armi home page remember the R1 is called an Argo (same gun).
  5. Thanks for the reply. I would lump sitting and kneeling in with free hand standing. The nature of my post was simply to practice shooting in a practical hunting stance as apposed to a controled bench with bags or rifle cradles. You're absolutly correct. If my target is outside of 100 yrds or looks comfortable where it is I too will use a kneeling position. I am no good at prone as the only time a scope ever kissed my eye I was lying down. Now I always flinch. Hope to hear from you again.
  6. sgj2025 - I read somewhere that a whitetail rarely travels more than a mile from its place of birth in its entire life so you just may be in luck there. You'll have to go out and find some sheds this spring and next season do some scouting. Also use buck atractants to get them to hang in a certain area. One other trick Gramps taught me when he was alive. 3 weeks or so before season take a unwashed sock and hang it where you plan to stand. Change the sock every week. The deer will become accustomed to your cent and stop fearing it. Good Luck
  7. I know we all go to the range. Set up our bench and practice our grouping. It's nice to see tight little clovers or even one ragged hole but I have not yet found a bench set up in front of a Moose, Deer, Lope or even a yodel dog. Once in a while a truck hood will double for a rest but not always. I also do a lot of practice free hand shooting. Once your gun is accurate you have to make yourself accurate too. I bring this up as I rcently heard a story about a fellow who was happy if he could shoot a pie plate at 200 yrds. The fellow telling the story was scoffing. He figured a 2 inch group at 200 yrds was more his style. I am not sure if the pie plate gent was talking about free hand or not but I sure would like to see the scoffer step away from the bench and show me a 2 inch group at 200 yrds. I'm sure some can do it. Not me. I could hit the pie plate every time at 200 free hand with my .257 but not my Benni. At least not every time. And I practice. Believe me. Practicing that stand up free hand shooting is NOT a waste of ammo. It's just down right practical.
  8. fun times had by all. I see you're a fan of wood. I know synth. stocks have a lot of benefits but you can't beat the astec appeal of nice wood.
  9. Way to go. I wish we had hogs up here in Northern Canada. Looks great.
  10. You can shoot a slug through a full choke. Of course when yer done you'll have a cyl. choke.
  11. I have a serious case of "festivus finger" from downloading grievance forms. I had to wright this post with pinkies only. P.S. Tucker301, Uh, I'll be needin yer mailing info.
  12. swacker ll at the top of the R1 forum thread list, (before you pick a thread) you will see a lilltl blue box with "new thread" written in it. This box is about an inch above the top thread on the left. give it a try.
  13. I am really biting at the bit. I can't wait for the up and comming deer season. I'm spending copious amounts of time looking through sports catalogues like Cabela's etc. I'm planning strategies and dreaming of monster racks. In the meantime I am enjoying the wonderfull aroma of cooking venison from this years harvest. Yep, only 11 and one half months to go to next deer season.
  14. Not sure what's in a box (reload) but as far as droping the bolt goes. I don't put a cartridge in the chamber. Just 3 in the mag put in the mag and push the release. This releases the bolt at max velocity i would asume. Once i tear her apart and clean her up she works well again for a box or so.
  15. You sure get big antlers down there. Your 3 point is larger than most of our 5 points Your 4 is bigger than our 6's. Must be the feed and the warmer temps. I'm jealous. Way to go.
  16. Yes. I am trying to fill my 3 point or better bull tag right now. 2 months ago there was elk all over the country. Now They have taken to the woods and are hard to get. Got 4 deer this year and one bull moose. But, the elk is the critter i really want. Best eating by far.
  17. He may be small but I'll keep him. And that's all she wrote. I got no more deer tags. Now for that elusive Elk.
  18. It's been a good deer season here in Alberta. 2 Whitetail doe supplimental tags filled last night Filled my buck tag with this small 4x4 a week ago.
  19. For the second time now i have discovered that after about 24 shots (one box of shells) my R1 starts to jam up. First it will begin by not fully loading the first shell when you put in a full clip. The shell will get half way out of the clip and stop. I have to then pull back the bolt and release it again. After 3 or 4 more shots it will then fail to pick up the next shell after ejection. One box seems to be the majic number before a complete take down cleaning and oiling. Is this similar to your experiences or is there a trick to keeping this thing rolling a little longer. Or, dare i say it, is this an exeptional problem experienced by myself alone. P.S. It still filled both of my whitetail supplimental doe tags today.
  20. 4x4 whitetail. shot in the head with .300 at aprox 150 yrds.
  21. Well i didn't get any recipies so i invented some. Not too bad actually.
  22. thanks. I could just buy a package of sausage spice but i would really like to try some of the tried and true family recipies. Home style is always better.
  23. I Got a deer yesterday and would like to make sausage out of the hamburger. I bought a new grinder and it came with a sausage tuber. I lost the old hand crank blade so i bought an electric. I have no smoker but if you have some recipies i would like to give them a try. Thanks
  24. actuall the ford mustang with the 500 hp upgrade and shelby touch ups is a better handler and mor powerfull than the 308. Now farrari has other modles to woopp fords ass. I never researched this mind you. I read it somewhere and just remembered it. If I used a poor analigy forgive me. We just recently got tv and internet in our iglo Edit- Farrari 308 = 235 hp , 188 torque. Ford shelby 500 = 550 hp, 510 torque. Ford has shorter stopping distance. More G force capabilities ie. tighter handling. Conclusion: Farrari Well it's a farrari I'll take it over a ford anyday.
  25. Good looking rifle. Nice wood pattern. Looks great in stainless. Intresting reading. I never thought of bamboo as a stock option berfore $$no pun intended.
