NovaDucker
I have a nova, and absolutely love it. the only problem i have been having is i am having quite a few misfires, and its been getting to me(missed many chances at ducks). anyone else have this problem and have a solution for it? tried cleaning it all out and a fresh coat of oil, and that helped for 2 shots. it is sporadic, and on any brand of shell ive tried. it is hitting light on the primer, there is a dent, but not enough to fire it. help? duckht183
How old's your Nova?
NovaDucker
a year and a half ish
duckht183
That shouldnt be happening. The only problem I've had were shells not firing because they were wet. Have you took apart your bolt and looked at your firing pin? If its worn down (which it shouldnt be) your gonna need to have it replaced, if its not then make sure its inserted correctly. I've noticed Benelli's firing pins wearing down after about 7 years but yours should be fine
NovaDucker
it does not look worn down at all.i just took it apart again, and cleaned it out again, and made sure there is nothing left, moisture, oil, or anything inside of the action again. hopefully this works. this isnt because they are wet, ive tried it on new from the box shells, and ones from my belt. duckht183
Whats the spring around your firing pin look like?
NovaDucker
looks fine, same length it was when i took it apart the first time. about 1 3/4" long. looks brand new.
duckht183
Id take it into the shop because the only other think of is that the spring might be cracked or the the firing pin is just bad. Its not gonna be cheap if thats the problem. Have you ever shot a Franchi I-12?
NovaDucker
thinking maybe it hasnt been seating all of the way, and the firing pin maybe not contacting it enough. i will fool around with it out in the field tomorrow and see if i can figure it out. never have shot a franchi, this is my first benelli product. duckht183
Alright. Hopefully it all works out. Yeah if you get a chance check out the Franchi, its a damn good shotgun
duckht183
Hey another thing, make sure the bolt is fully engauged or it wont fire.
NovaDucker
by that do you mean all of the way forward? there is a little play when the action is closed, and i am thinking that could be where it is misfiring??
duckht183
Yeah if the bolt is not all the way forward than all you'll get is a "click", every benelli will do that if its not completely engauged
NovaDucker
i am going to check that out tomorrow, heading out for ducks in the AM again. hopefully it was operator error, and not something wrong with the gun.

NovaDucker
well no misfires today, and i made sure that the forearm was all of the way forward. operator error. oh yeah, and today was a bust, they all left the ditches we jumped yesterday and went to the ones on the other side of the flats today. guy was there for 2 hours and got a limit. gonna give it another try tomorrow. duckht183
Thats good at least it was a simple thing to fix. Yeah same here im headed out at 3:30 AM, hopefully this storm is gonna be pushing them down.
NovaDucker
i think the ducks are gone from up here. jumped 3 mallards, a few of what looked like bufflehead, and saw only a few groups fly. or they just got smart and went to somewhere where we were not. again no misfires today, so i figured it out. everything is frozen here so it is all jump shooting the small ditches that arent frozen. hope ya had better luck than us
