When a shell is resting on top of the shell carrier, what prohibits a shell from being released from the magazine after the chambered round is fired? THANX!!! Duggan Posted March 2, 2009 Share Posted March 2, 2009 Good question, something I do not really have a good answer for ... If I had to guess, I'd say that the shell being held down by the BCG cycling above it keeps the lifter down, and the lifter being held down for the rearwards cycle period makes the BCG skip the notch that normally would activate the shell release and trip the lifter on the next cycle forward.
