malakaz
I just bought a box of blackcloud for a goose hunt in sept because the others were sold out. My question is i read that it does not work well with ported barrels or ported chokes. Can i use these shells with my Supersport and stock chokes? Thanks
tucker301
Yes. Just follow the usual choke guidelines for steel shot. You can also get the carlson's chokes for black cloud for around $35, but non-ported factory choke tubes will be fine.

Trapshooter1
The Federal turkey shells I use share the same FC wad as black cloud and it says not to use it with a ported choke for the best results. Briley also offers their version of the black cloud choke tube: http://briley.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1229

Trapshooter1
well i have a kicks highflyer and its ported all the way around and phil robertson uses the same one and he shoots black cloud so its gotta be ok Believe me, check out the FC wads after they have been shot, ported chokes tear up the wads and affect the performance. Ever notice how black cloud chokes are non ported?
VINCIshooter
well that sucks for some people. I guess if it works for me it must not work for anyone else haha.
Trapshooter1
well that sucks for some people. I guess if it works for me it must not work for anyone else haha. It will work for everyone but it would work better if it wasn't ported.

cootcommander
Do not shoot black cloud shells through a ported choke. Pieces of the wad get stuck in the choke. High Flyer has a duck commander choke that is non ported especially for black cloud.
Trapshooter1
nah ported chokes work nicer for steel same as full blown trapshooters port there barrel it works better not neccasarly recoil or muzzle jumy in the chokes but pattern wise Porting the barrel does make a difference as far as muzzle jump. They drill the wholes in angles so the gas works against the jump. Chokes are ported all around, and the gas is let out in all directions making no difference in muzzle jump. Shotguns are low pressure guns, and porting the muzzle has little effect on shotguns, but very noticeable affects on high power rifles. Manufactures may claim that ported chokes pattern better, but the pattern board does not.
