Mag Cap Question

I bought a 2 round magazine extension tube for my M2, it came with the tube, spring and cap. The cap has a hole in is center, I am going to use this gun for hunting snow geese so there is good chance of using the gun in the snow and rain. I found a rubber grommet plug that fits the hole perfectly, but wondered why the hole in the cap.

Sling stud perhaps?

It very well could be for a sling stud, this tube has a sling swivel on it's base.

With the exception of guns like the M4 where the end of the mag. tube is where it is secured most have holes in the cap. Plugging it will have no ill effects on the gun but will help keep the tube from getting wet.
