jrmichael
Does it hurt the gun to dry-fire a Benelli? Is a shot gun different than a center-fire rifle in this regard? How about a rim-fire?
tucker301
The firing mechanism in many shotguns is very similar to that of a centerfire rifle. Limited dry firing has never seemed to harm any weapon I've owned, but if I were going to make a habit out of repeatedly dry firing a weapon, I'd use snap caps. http://www.gamaliel.com/cart/customer/product.php?productid=4745&cat=1214&page=1 [ 02-10-2005, 05:39 AM: Message edited by: tucker301 ]
FN_FAL
The only modern firearms I wouldn't repeatedly dryfire are 22lr pistols. If your a cheap skate (or just a penny pincher) I'd just use spent shells in place of snapcaps.
ramerman
try to keep in mind that the axis or a rimfire's firing pin falls in relation to the edge of the barrel's bore at the breach. if you are not using snap caps or FN_FAL's nice idea, you are dropping the hardened pin on the breach's steel. not good for either part over the long haul. brownnells.com had a nice selection of snap caps, dummy rounds and action provers if you are interested in trying your guns without live rounds.
