Slugs for Big Game hunting (SBE)

After reading some the the archives it looks like Foster style slugs are the choice for smooth barrels. Can anyone recommend a brand with in conjunction with a smooth 28" barrel?

Federal makes very good slugs for smoothbores, the standard classic has been a standby for years, and their new Tru Ball is supposed to be the best smoothbore slug advance in years.

If I can shoot a slug out of a smooth bore, whats the advantage with a rifled slug barrel? Accuracy?

 

Will I cause any type of damage using the Tru Ball through a standard 28" SBE II barrel?

Similarily, what's the best choke & slug combo for a 18.5 inch barrel?

Yes, the rifled barrel will typically be more accurate, although advances in slug design such as the tru ball have narrowed the gap.

 

It's perfectly safe to shoot slugs through the 28" barrel, but I wouldn't use anything tighter than Imp. Cylinder on the choke.

 

Nitro_Kid,

The Tru Balls should also work well in the shorter smoothbores.
