rhane71 Posted March 15, 2012 Share Posted March 15, 2012 IMO, this would be dependent on the type of ammo you are using. Most Tactical Home Defense rounds should be good up to about 35 yards. You really don't want more than that for home defense. Unless you don't have neighbors to worry about out. Magnum slug rounds can range from 50 to 100+ yards if you use high quality Brenneke rounds. rhane71 Posted March 15, 2012 Share Posted March 15, 2012 A 8.5" barrel weapon firing a 6.8 SPC round is effective out to 300 Meters. Of course you have to do your part. But the bullet will travel with enough force to neutralize a threat at that distance. Short barrels are typically used for close quarter combats because they are easier to swing around corners and control.
